I met John in 2006. I thought he was one of the sweetest people I´ve ever met. We got along so well. He charmed this Texas gal with that accent! I loved seeing his relationship with Cory. No dad was ever prouder of his son. The world has lost something very wonderful with his death. They just don´t make them like John anymore.

Margaret and I are deeply saddened to hear that your Mum has also passed away,Cory. We were great pals with your Dad and shared many happy times together in Dumfries from the mid-1950´s till he left for Edinburgh. He will always be in our thoughts as will your Mum,despite us never being lucky enough to meet her. Please send us the links for the services in February.Again, please accept our deepest condolences.Kenny Gillies.

Meeting him before I married his ex. I never met a guy who loved his kids so much. He was a character for sure, and we became friendly. I was sad to hear of his demise, but I can sure hear him telling God "That's not how you cook fish & chips!"

Dad was a shining example of kindness and care. Although I have a very long way to go, I try and be more like him every day. I think about you every day. Saying you'll be missed is a grand understatement. I love you dad.
