I knew John through his Petroleum Engineering career & skills both In Jakarta Indonesia & here in Calgary
He was very highly regarded in Well Test Analysis & was inventive in applying new techniques such as Closed chamber Testing applied to pumping oil-wells.
Always ready to help solve technical problems problems & active in the Indonesian Petroleum Association
We will miss not having someone so clever to bounce ideas off & obliging to help everyone

My heartfelt appreciation to Susan for sending the message about John's passing.
John and I have been lifelong friends since university where we graduated together in Mechanical Engineering and spent wonderful summers at Bill and Evelyn's magical place on Ghost river.
Even though our paths crossed less frequently in later years, news of my friend's passing brings back so many deeply fond memories. I well remember Bill looking on in amusement as, covered in oily dirt, we hooked up a makeshift hoist to pull the engine from John's car for repairs.
It's hard for me to think of anyone so unassuming, yet so exceptionally capable. John was one of the most genuinely good persons that God put on earth. I don't know what the great hereafter holds for mankind, but I know that my friend John deserves a very special place, as he has in my heart.
Ann and Susan, I wish I could be in Calgary on Thursday to personally pass on my condolences, but international travel obligations make that impossible. I will have you and John in my thoughts all through that day.

My sincere condolences to John's family and friends. He gave me a terrific career break when he hired me in 1980 and I really enjoyed working with him. I'll remember him always, too. So sorry he's gone.

John was so excited to go overseas this spring and share his knowledge with others. He was very dedicated to his students and was one of those hard-working quiet fellows who got everything done while other people were busy talking about it. We will miss his thoughtful insights and service. Condolences to the family from all of us at Friends of Science Society.
