Dear Whitmore Family, Mr. Whitmore was my homeroom teacher and math teacher for two years. He possessed quiet strength and commanded respect without ever raising his voice. He was one of the kindest and most patient teachers I have ever known. I have thought of him over the years with gratitude and fondness. My condolences to his children and family members.

Although I was unable to attend Mr. Whitmore's funeral, I wanted to express my sympathy to you, his family. Mr. Whitmore was both my teacher and colleague. As a student, I appreciated his teaching style and calm demeanor. He made mathematics both challenging and satisfying. As a colleague and teacher, he was respected by all. I will remember him fondly.

Although I was unable to attend Mr. Whitmore's funeral, I wanted to express my sympathy to you, his family. He was both my teacher from 1963-1966 and a colleague from 1970 until his retirement. He made mathematics both challenging and satisfying
and was highly respected by all. I will remember him fondly.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. I will never forget the frigid winter night that Diane and I stayed up late talking. (Hard to believe I know.) When I left to go home I couldn't get my car to start. Apparently I had flooded it. Mr. Whitmore patiently came to the rescue and explained what I had done wrong and showed me what to do if I was ever in that situation again. Once a teacher - always a teacher.

To Diane, Richard and Bill. My thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time. I have always remembered your dad and the patience he had in the classroom (even with his most challenging students), his dry wit and love of sports. He was a wonderful man.

Thank you for believing in me. Math was not my strong subject, but you believed that I could do it. I am a better teacher because of you. You inspired so many students. Thoughts are with your family.

I wanted to tell you I am so sorry for your loss, I was able to meet and have dinner with Jack a couple of times at the veterans home, he sat at the same table as my father, he seemed like such a wonderful man, again I am so sorry.

Jack Whitmore was my high school math teacher for 3 years at Ellsworth High. He was also my JV basketball coach for 2 years and baseball coach for two years. He was a mentor and teacher at all times and a fine role model for many students in my era and beyond. My condolences to his family on the loss of a good man who touched many lives in many positive ways.

Jack was a few years ahead of me in Bucksport High School, but I knew him. He must have inherited his teaching ability from his mother. I had her for English and can still recite lines of a poem she had us memorize. Even though I did not have an adult friendship with Jack, he will be missed by his many students as well as friends from High School days. God Bless his family. Ben Blodget

Mr. Whitmore, my high school math teacher and father of a good friend, was a brilliant man with a gift for teaching even the toughest math theories. He was a serious teacher who quietly left his students with not only knowledge of math concepts, but the ability to extrapolate, analyze and comprehend new math theories. Mr. Whitmore also had the driest Maine sense of humor evidenced by the twinkle in his eye when telling a joke. He was a great Dad to Dianne, Richard and Billy. He was so kind to all their friends and seemed to enjoy it when we descended on the house irregardless of the time of day!

What a wonderful teacher, he lead by example, many math examples I NEVER understood, but it didn't detour him from keeping on me. I'll be thinking of you all, and remembering him always.

My condolences to Mr Whitmore's family. He was one of my teachers in my days at EHS, I worked with him in both basketball and baseball programs too, and enjoyed it very much.
My dad, principal of EHS for 17 yrs, considered Mr Whitmore a highly valued man, both as teacher and friend.
Many of us EHS grads had our lives enriched by both Mr Whitmore's teaching and friendship.

A great teacher, a mentor, and a role model. Jack Whitmore had a profound influence on my life. I will never forget him standing in front of the class, eyebrows raised, staring off towards the back of the classroom, while he pondered an answer to some sort of mathematical theorum. My condolences to the family.
