John David Withrow III

John David Withrow III, of Morganton, passed away, Saturday April 3, 2021, at his residence. He was born May 10, 1940, in Augusta, Ga., the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. John David Withrow Jr. He was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church. John was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christina Withrow; daughter, Jamie Gladden and husband, Jeff, of Morganton; son, James Withrow and wife, Johanna of Hampton, Va.; sisters, Laura Beth Whisnant (Donald), Lelia Bruder; brother, Reid Withrow; grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Eddie Gladden, Trever Propst, Austin Gladden, Adrienne Stadler, Logan Withrow, and Kynsley Withrow; great-randchildren, Haven Gladden, Kobe Johnson, Ryleigh Gladden, and Cooper Propst; and his loving Pekingese, Millie.

John served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He attended Presbyterian Junior College, Lees McRae and was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University. John was a corporate pilot for 20 years. He had a passion for racing and did some drag racing in his early years. He loved bluegrass music. John was an excellent dobro player and played in bands, "The Dixie Grass," "Bobby Denton and Laurel Creek," and "Southern Blend."

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church, NC 181, in Morganton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
