John E. Woomer

John Edmund Woomer September 3, 1924 August 29, 2018 John Edmund Woomer, 93, of Belleville, formerly of Pennsylvania Furnace, died August 29, 2018, at Valley View Retirement Village, Belleville. He was born in Graysville, the son of Edmund K. and AnnaLysle (Shank) Woomer. On July 26, 1952, in Graysville, he married Marjorie A. Barkman who preceded him in death on March 9, 2017. Also preceding him in death were sons Jay (1962) and Edmund (2016); and siblings Harold, Isabelle, Ida, Louise and Georgia. John is survived by two sons and one daughter: Roger Woomer, of Irmo, S.C.; Anita (John) Heichel, of Tyrone; and Larry (Tammy) Woomer, of Pennsylvania Furnace; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and sister Enid Peiffer. John was a 1943 graduate of the Warriors Mark-Franklin High School and retired from Penn State University in 1988, after 31 years of service. He was a WW II U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jeff Glenny officiating. Burial will take place at Graysville Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, from 68 p.m. at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Valley View Haven Endowment Fund, 4702 E.
