He was the 1st artist to show me what country music was supposed to sound like. I believe he should be in the country music hall of fame...every time I hear him sing I just cry. This coming from a lady who is a rocker chick who loves rock music

What an incredible artist. The first song I ever sang in a honky tonk was "Pass Me By" I loved Johnny Rodriguez who didn´t. After years in the music business recording and opening for other artists I finally got the opportunity to see Johnny in person back in 2019. I´m so grateful that I did he was still awesome after all these years. RIP Johnny and thanks for the music and the memories you will be missed.

Hoping for peace and comfort for Johnny´s family knowing he is at peace and with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Johnny became part of our family in the 1960´s and early 70´s. He spent a lot of time at our home in Uvalde and ranch in Regan Wells near Garner State Park. My older brother Richard "Dickie" Green was with him when they caught and barbecued the goat at Garner Park. My brother and I took him to Alamo Village to meet Happy Shahan for his job interview and the rest is history. He always waved and motioned for us to come back stage at venues we attended, he never forgot where he came from and loved and cared for his family dearly. Rest in peace old friend and may God bless.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Green

Johnny, I hope your reunion in Heaven, with all those who have gone before you, was a great one. Went to the Celebration of Life they had for you this past Sunday at Texas Pride BBQ. It was a great day! You'd have been so overwhelmed by the people who came out to honor you. There were musicians there that I hadn't seen in many years. Some from the 70's, (members of your old band & crew) musicians I hadn't seen since the 70's when I worked for Crash Stewart. I don't get around too good anymore so I didn't see everyone, but seeing all the people there who followed your shows was awesome. You were so loved, I hope you know that. I will see you again one day. Miss you so much.

I saw Johnny here in Va in early 70´s. He was so gorgeous & I´ve loved him all these years. He was a great artist but never got the recognition he deserved from Nashville. He should have been in the Country Hall of Fame years ago. I love his beautiful voice. Condolences to his family & friends. May he rest in peace.

I first heard Johnny sing on WHN country station in 1972. I fell in love with his pure rich vocals. I bought all of his albums and still play them today. I was so lucky to have seen him perform three times over the years and to meet the warm and handsome man that he was. Rest in peace Johnny, you were the best and your legacy will live on.

As a young reporter, wanting to build a career that somehow involved the entertainment industry, I was given the chance to cover Johnny's concert in Dallas as both a Journalist and Photographer. Johnny made sure I got great shots due to his charisma and great smile. He wore black slacks and a copper satin shirt. I still have some of those photos. I got to meet him after the show and talk. He was so sweet and so genuine. I saw him again through the years after moving to Nashville where I had built a career as a Tour Photographer. He still had that great smile. A light has gone out in our world with his passing.

Johnny Rodriguez had a profound musical influence on me from the very start. I remember being awakened by the clock radio one morning in 1972 in Stotts City, MO to the sounds of "Pass Me By". I was, in a word, electrified.
I bought a copy of the single, put on my headphones and binge-listened, trying to sort out every detail. Everything about that record - Hillman Hall's song, Johnny's voice, Pete Drake's steel, Johnny Gimble's fiddle, and the more subtle contributions of Pig Robbins, Jerry Kennedy and Buddy Harmon, all wove a texture that became a template for me as I started a career in music a few years later.
Johnny, you were part of the soundtrack that took me from late adolescence and into adulthood. May you rest peacefully and may your loved ones experience the grace of God.
We've lost an American treasure, but the music lives on.

I met Johnny Rodriguez through a friend of his Bobby Dale Barrera, at Vernon's BBQ in Corpus Christi TX. I had been a fan since my early years through my Bros n cousins while riding with the Christian Motor Cycle organization.
I was fortunate working Christi Spohn hospital when he suffered illness n he recognized me asking if I wouldn't mind going to What's Burger for him. I did and he autographed a tape for me which was priceless. He shared stories with me of times he spent with not only my bikers friends but memories of family Id known their stories n he verified each story, My grandson n I started attending his concerts around Texas.
He was always very polite and gave my young grandson amazing memories still today of recognizing him in a crowd n taking time to shake his hand n visit with him.
My grandson had suggested we get a leather vest for him as a thank you for the attention he always took time out to say hello to him with unbelievable amount of fans around as such a young lad.
We did do that and tried to send to him several times but always returned, and one time We drove to concert and tried getting vest to him but security wouldn't let us through which was ok we were lucky so many times in the past for him to enjoy those hellos and see my grandson admire his talent n most thoughtful spare time to say hello.
I am hoping my grandson n I can find a way he can get that beautiful jacket to his daughter Abruy that we had designed for his big Award he was honored with for CMA LIVING LEGEND OCT 16, 2019.
MY grandson will be home on leave from the United States Marines in July and that was his dream n Mr Rodriguez told him go for it n get your dream no matter who tells you that hard to get into
Today I'm a proud fan of his and of my grandson paying attention to advice his friend Johnny Rodriguez always was never too busy to spare a moment to acknowledge my grandson at such a young age.
Hopefully we can find a way to get this awesome memory to Johnny's family.
Sincerely d.l. Brooks and Harold and JD my grandsons.
My devoted prayer to the family
