Johnny Warrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2018.
Johnny Wade Warrick, 55, of Noble passed from this life on November 11, 2018 in Norman, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service and celebration of Johnny's life will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 2:30pm at the First Christian Church at 3700 N. Walker in Oklahoma City, OK. Public visitation will be held on Friday from 12pm to 8pm at Advantage Funeral Home located at 7720 S. Pennsylvania in OKC.

Johnny was born on October 6, 1963 in Edmond, OK to John Walter and Barbara Jean (Haley) Warrick. He was raised in Stinnett, TX, then he moved back to Oklahoma, eventually ending up at Valiant High School in Valiant, OK for his senior year. Johnny was a talented athlete who excelled at football and boxing. Johnny had success in several boxing matches, and he was soon boxing with the likes of World Champ Donald Curry. He also was asked to compete in the Golden Gloves Boxing organization.

In 1981, in Edmond, Johnny met the love of his life, Brenda McGruder, and a year later they were married. He later began working for the Bethany Water Treatment Plant. Johnny later worked in the grocery and landscaping trades after attending a trade school for electronics. He worked for several years as a carpenter in Edmond, OK and helped build Oak Tree Addition and many of the houses as the neighborhood developed. In 2006 he accepted a position with Haliburton, a job he enjoyed until being seriously injured while on the job. He retired in late 2008 due to his injury.

Johnny was an ornery and independent man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing just about anything, and showing his beloved American Pitbull Terriers. He was a member of the NRA, Vocational Industrial Club of America, and the 89er's Dog Club. Johnny had a big heart and enjoyed serving and bringing joy to others by volunteering for the Red Andrews Christmas Party. Johnny was a very kind and welcoming guy who preferred hugging over handshakes and acceptance over judgment.

The two things that he was most passionate about were his faith and his family. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of OKC and also the Refuge Fellowship Church ,where he also enjoyed being able to serve some of the city's struggling and forgotten about families. He was an animal lover who enjoyed spending time with his dogs, his cat "Shadow" or feeding the deer that made their way onto his property. Johnny was also a dedicated family man who was never happier than when he was with his grandkids John "Sir Walter" Warrick and his sister Chevelle "Hot Rod" Warrick.

Johnny Wade Warrick was a loving husband, a caring father, a proud grandpa, and a trusted friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He packed a lot of wonderful memories into his short 55 years, and he will live on through the lives of wife, kids, and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Warrick and step-father, John White; brother Jeffrey Warrick; grandparents: Stella Brown and husband Ernest and Madge Warrick and husband Archie; granddaughter Dominique Ledford; step-grandson Lucas Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Brenda Warrick; his mother Barbara White; two kids Johnny Ray Warrick and wife Amber and Lindsay Ledford and husband Paul; two grandchildren: John Walter Warrick II and Chevelle Warrick; a brother Jerrell Warrick; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family and friends.
