Johnson Gaines Obituary
Johnson graduated from Central High School and furthered his education at Memphis State University. He served in the Air Force, where he embraced the discipline and camaraderie that military life offered. After his service, he channeled his love for cars into a successful career at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet, where he worked until his retirement in 2006.
In his retirement, Johnson enjoyed thrifting and working in his yard, activities that brought him great joy and relaxation.
He is survived by his children, Melody Beacham, David Gaines (Valerie), and Heather Gaines; grandchildren, Davis and Josephine Gaines; brother, Richard Gaines (Jean); niece, Terry Kubicki (Michael); and nephew, Richard Gaines Jr. (Wendy). He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Thelma Gaines.
A service to honor Johnson's life will be held at Memphis National Cemetery in Memphis, TN, on January 16, 2026, at 2 p.m. His life and service will be commemorated in a setting befitting his commitment to his country and community.

I met Johnson at Keesler AFB Biloxi Mississippi while we were going through training in 1966. We continued a friendship that lasted over 59 years. He was my best friend and buddy and I will miss him greatly
