Johnson Haynes was a great man who I will never forget. He taught me to become an anemia and sickle cell expert but also taught how to be the best doctor. I talk about him often when I teach students

I had Dr. Haynes for an ER clerkship at USA.
He was an excellent resident to work for and I learned a lot from him. I hate to hear of his passing

Devastated to hear the news of my only adult sickle cell doctor I met Dr. Haynes when I was 19 coming from pediatric sickle cell over to adult sickle cell and it´s been 10 years he was my doctor. Very passionate, kind, and caring, I can´t imagine what or where my life would be without him. May God bless his family and may he rest in peace.

You all have my deepest condolences. I was so heartbroken when I read the letter about my sickle cell Dr. Haynes passing. I was a patient of his for many years. He was such a brilliant man. Every time I saw him, he had a smile on his face. If I had known about his passing earlier, I would have come to the funeral. Praying for you all.

Life is but a Stopping Place
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord

Johnson and I became friends as we were both completing research fellowships in the Cardiovascular Pulmonary Lab in the Webb Waring Lung Institute at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1986-1987. Johnson was the consummate Physician Scientist exploring the mechanism of lung and heart disease in patients with Sickle Cell Disease. Despite his scholarly research work, he never lost his focus on the patients who suffered from Sickle Cell Disease providing expert care to many patients throughout his career. He was also a tireless advocate for young people of color seeking careers in medicine and research. He was quite simply one of the finest examples of the physician scientist I have ever known.

To the family of the late Beloved Dr. Johnson Haynes,
I Pray for Strength for each of you at this time, you lost a father, love one, a family member, but some of us lost a Great, Loving, Caring, Passionate Professional Doctor. Yes he Shall Be Missed by soo many. He taught, he cared, he laughed, he was concerned about all his patients, staff, co-workers, and any and everything he had a part in. The created a Blessed Strong Black Man, when he created Dr Haynes, he didn´t see color, he saw a People In All of us. Our hearts are heavy with yours, But I Pray for Strength for everyone. Hold to your Faith In Christ Jesus, and Hold to All of your love and memories. For he is Only Sleeping now....Be Encouraged, Be Strong and Believe In Jesus Christ to get you through this difficult time.....Prayers for All
