Jon A. Doukas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2025.
Jon A. Doukas, 85, passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke and having complications on September 15, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on January 31, 1940, in Keene, New Hampshire, Jon was the son of William and Rita Doukas of Falmouth, Massachusetts. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and curiosity that would shape his life's path through education, military service, and a distinguished professional career.

Jon pursued higher education with dedication, earning his undergraduate degree from Boston College before going on to receive his Master's degree from the University of Maine. His early professional life was marked by a commitment to teaching-first as a teacher and later as a professor-before he transitioned into the world of banking.

Before embarking on his civilian career, Jon served honorably in the United States Coast Guard. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant and concluded his military service stationed at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. His time in the Coast Guard instilled in him a deep sense of leadership and discipline that would serve him well throughout his life.

After completing his graduate studies, Jon began working at Maine National Bank. His career later took him to Louisville, Kentucky, where he joined First National Bank. There he rose through the ranks to become Vice President of Personnel. He eventually brought his expertise to Professional Banking Services, where he continued to excel and make meaningful contributions to the field.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jon was deeply engaged in the cultural life of his community. A passionate supporter of the arts, he was actively involved with The Louisville Opera and Orchestra. He found joy in music and performance and believed strongly in supporting institutions that enriched community life. An avid reader with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, Jon also loved to entertain-welcoming friends and family into his home with warmth and generosity. He also was an avid traveler and made it to all the continents and captured many photographs along the way.

Jon was a devoted father and a great friend to many. He is survived by his three children: Debra "Debbie" Doukas; David Doukas and his partner Dr. Sarah Griffin; and Drew Doukas. His legacy lives on through them and through all those whose lives were touched by his kindness and wisdom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Doukas of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his sister Betty May of Sacramento, California.

A memorial service will be held at his home at a later date with his ashes going to the Coast Guard to be spread off the coast of Cape Cod.

May Jon A. Doukas' memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who remember him.

I had the privilege of living next door to Jon for 18 years. I was at 4309 Winchester Road. Jon and I shared many stories over the years. We were both passionate about ours homes and the outdoor space. We exchanged gifts every Christmas. We watched out for each other and helped each other when needed. I am a Nurse Practitioner at Women First. I often drive by to check on my home and always make sure Jon´s car is in the drive. I recently drove by to see the beautiful Fall color in St. Matthew´s. I saw his car and was thinking about Christmas, knowing I would see him once again. So sad to hear of his passing, but know the past several years were difficult. So now it´s time to rest easy, my friend! Love you and will always miss you. Peggy Wolf

Very sorry to hear of Jon´s passing. I worked with Jon at PBS for many years. He was a great consultant with in-depth perception of people and could analyze their skill set after one interview. He was a steady mentor and straight forward communicator. He was well respected in the industry and within PBS. Our deepest condolences to the family.
