NANTICOKE — Jon A. Metta, 59, of Nanticoke, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 2, 2014, at Guardian Elder Care, Sheatown, where he was briefly a patient. He had been ill for the past six years.
Born on Aug. 19, 1954, in Bethesda, Md., he was a son of the late Victor and Ruth Jordan Metta. He was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville, Md. He was also a graduate of Wilkes University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in political science in 1977. He married the former Karen Cooper on Dec. 30, 1976.
Mr. Metta was employed as an analyst with the Pennsylvania Economy League, Wilkes-Barre, for 12 years, and later was a financial advisor with Prudential Securities, PNC and last at Raymond James Investments, Kingston. He also was employed in a financial capacity at the Greater Nanticoke Area School District for a year until his health no longer permitted.
Jon was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Alden Station, where he served on the financial committee and vestry, and was a member of the West Side Park Association, Nanticoke. His political activities included serving as a Democratic Committee member and a Nanticoke City councilman for a term. Jon was very adept with computers and loved animals.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Metta; daughters, Christina Metta, Wapwallopen, Alexa Metta, Nanticoke, and Charmaine Metta, at home; three brothers, Victor and his wife, Ann, Chevy Chase, Md., Stanley and his wife, Nancy, Silver Spring, Md, and Dale, Gaithersburg, Md.; a sister, Suzanne Metta, Gaithersburg; nieces, nephews and his beloved dogs.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. John Leo officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Mr. Metta's memory be made to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.

Mrs. Metta, Tia and family,
Mrs. Metta, I remember seeing and speaking with you in Sam's Club, not too long ago and you were telling me that your husband was sick. I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
