I was one of Tyler´s poker buddies. He will be genuinely missed. I have known Tyler for 50 years. He always made me laugh whether he was sing one of his songs in German or telling me about his experiences he had as a young boy growing up in Rockford, Illinois. He was a terrible card shuffler. When it came for his time to deal he would only shuffle the cards three or four times. He was always teased about that. I finally started bring a shuffling machine to the poker games just for him. He liked using it after awhile. He always had us laughing at the games.

Tyler and I were HFT building representatives at Fox Middle School. I can remember Tyler getting in many heated discussions with the school administrators when it came to protecting our students union rights.

I met Tyler through our activism in the Hartford Federation of Teachers. I always remember fondly the day that I served as Justice of the Peace at his wedding to fellow teacher Marie McIsaac. It was a perfect day full of love. They tied the knot at the home of fellow colleague and union leader, Jeanne Spencer at McGrath Street in South Windsor. May Tyler's legacy continue to inspire us all.

Dear Tamara and other family and friends of Tyler, I read this obituary and smiled the entire time. I worked at the union office for over 40 years and got to know Tyler. When he retired, we found a card that read "Tanks a lot" and I can still remember how much he loved it. He was such a great person, very intelligent, very sincere and true to his word. He always fought against injustice in so many ways. I will definitely vote the way he has requested. :-) Hoping in time your wonderful memories of Tyler will help with your sorrow. Respectfully, Nancy Swanson
