Add memories that will last forever

Not sure what to say?

October 26, 2019

I didn't know him personally, but he actually wrote me a note of praise for a book I wrote - in the disaster recovery space. I was touched he took time to do that. I just learned of his passing (oct/19) - rest well good Sir.

I had the pleasure of Meeting John at a presentation in Denver a couple of years back. Extremely bright, cordial, and engaging. He will be sorely missed by those of us that make a living managing performance and security of large systems computer storage. My condolences to his family and friends.

For more than 12 years, Jon has been an inspiring, global storage rock star. Every event I attended, blog I read, solutions I worked with him on - were always very entertainment and memorable experiences. Nobody else could rival his sensational approach, deep approach to storage and creativity. I am most honored to have been one of Jon's friends and would like to convey my sincere sympathies to his entire beloved family. He cared deeply about people and always spoke of his family with huge pride. I hope that people can remember him as a true industry legend and ground-breaker for decades to come as I am saddened that we lost him so soon.

Jon was an absolute legend to me. I was also lucky enough to be able to call him a good friend too.

When I took a gamble with starting my own business , it was Jon that went out of his way to help me, contact a ton of people and always check in on me regularly to see how I was getting on.

I will focus on the good memories of a good friend. Thoughts with you and the family Margaret.

I knew Jon for close to 20 years - perhaps more. Early on, as a storage editor, I spoke to him frequently, discussing the latest technology of the day. I still would call on him periodically to address the security implication of storage. I shall miss him -- we all shall miss him. A voice of sanity in the crazy world of tech.

Jon was a bright light in the industry... A true raconteur, who could bring insight, joy, and laughter to even the most dry technical topics. A rare skill from a wonderful human. He will be missed.

Jon was a brilliant light in the industry, a man who brought joy and laughter to even the most esoteric topics.

A true raconteur and gracious human. He will be missed.

It was an honor to work with Jon for more than a decade. I will remember him with a big smile when I recall the first time I met him. He was the MC at SNW, conducting a panel discussion of the CEOs from the top storage companies. He had a rare talent to mix humor with painfully direct questions, and never let anyone get away with any BS. We will all miss him.

Jon was a great keynote speaker. I have great memories of our executive event in Germany and shopping for wooden toys for his kids. My last meeting with Jon was for dinner in Paris at one of his favorite restaurants (with his sister Bessy) to discuss a storage trends article for the company I was working for at the time. Great fun to be with - especially his wicked sense of humour! We will miss you Jon. RIP and love and warmth to your family during this sad time.

I can't put into words, how greatful I am to you. You where my second father in my eyes, you always had your door open for me, you would give me a second home, when my first one was getting bad. You would joke and make me laugh, you would call me your child. I never got to thank you, and I'm so sorry I never said it sooner, I'm so glad to have you, and your family, in my life. Thank you so much Jon.

I had the pleasure of attending many events where Jon was a speaker or guest. He was very candid. He was very smart. He was funny. He was bigger than life. He was passionate and full of energy. He will be missed.

On behalf of the many Fujifilm employees that knew and worked closely with Jon over many years, I wish to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences. Jon was a true IT industry expert; open, honest and vocal, with a great sense of humor. We were privileged and honored to have Jon join so many of our annual conferences and we always brought him back by popular demand. Jon will be greatly missed by the industry but even more so by family and friends.

I'm sorry to learn that another bright star has left our world. Jon was kind and encouraging when I started expanding into storage years ago. If you had the privilege of briefing with him in a PR setting, you left that meeting with nuggets of info and an overall good feeling. He had that rare combination of kindness, humor and brilliance. He was always a client favorite.Jon, it was a privilege working with you. Thank you.

Hiring Jon was the best thing I ever did because I learned so much, but more importantly I gained an amazing friend. He was incredibly talented at so many things but in the end you were lucky to have him in your life. Thanks for sharing him with us Margaret and family!

Jon was without a doubt one of the most interesting pundits in IT. Every conversation felt important, and his passion for life and his work was wonderful to see and feel. You always left feeling good and smiling after spending any time with Jon. Will be sadly missed.

Always laughter, always insightful, and never quite predictable. Remember his SNW preso's that took all prisoners and had us holding our sides laughing. Thank you for the joy you gave this world.

I'm saddened by the loss of Jon William Toigo. He was the first storage celebrity, I think. I met him as my career started and saw him speak at many events. He was witty, passionate and respectful of his audience as well. He had one of the first and most successful blogs in technology. I didn't know him personally, but he made a mark as a technologist and a writer. RIP.
