Jonas Vengris

VENGRIS - Jonas, age 94, of Osterville, on February 13, 2004, at his home. He was the husband of Ona (Klilunaite) Vengris, who died in 1999. Father of Vitolis E. Vengris of Washington, DC and Milda Nenortiene of Kaunas Lithuania. Also leaves his brother, Antanas Vengris and his sister, Ona Brieoiene, both of Lithuania. Also survived by four grandchildren and seven nephews and nieces. The funeral and burial will be in Lithuania. Jonas Vengris was born in Daglienai Lithuania and educated at the Agriculture Academy of Lithuania and the University of Bonn, Germany, which awarded him a doctorate in agricultural sciences. He was a member of the teaching staff of Agricultural Academy (University) of Lithuania, then he was the professor at the Baltic University in Hamburg-Pinneberg Germany. Immigrated to the United States in 1949, and joined the staff of University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Retired as a full professor in 1975. In 1993, was awarded an Honorary doctorate degree from the Lithuanian Agriculture University.
