We always referred to Jon as , "brother Jon. Through the years, I've always looked at Jon as a gentle kind spirit. I remember when Tim had some health issues and I wasn't feeling well myself.Brother Jon showed up with some vinegar concoction and Borax.Even though there was no way I was going to use it, it was a testimony to his gentle spirit. He always cared about our well being. I've always felt that love is not a bunch of words but that of action. Jon may not have said, "I love you" but demonstrated it. Jon was there with his health concoctions, his garden produce, and used his carpentry skills to build shelves in our garage and those in Tim's barn as well.
In that way, Brother Jon reminds me of the woman that gave two small copper coins to the temple treasury. She gave more than the rich. She gave all she had. That was Jon. I saw it first hand for almost ten years. One last thing. When Jon got sick,he came over for a visit. I was taken back by how frail he was. In my authoritative teacher voice I asked Jon if he was saved. I think it kind of scared him....he looked like a castigated first grader...He said he was. We are comforted. I know I'll seen him again.

"Jon was an awesome big brother to Ruthie, Mark, and me. He was usually Tarzan, and we could always count on him to rescue us from quicksand just in time. He often agreed to play Barbies with Ruthie and me as long as we agreed to play army guys or cops and robbers with him--and if we promised never to tell his friends he played Barbies. (Oops!) He was a great playmate, except for that time he put me in a cardboard box and threatened to ship me off to the meat market at South St. Paul. And the time he named my baby doll Chuckie and taught it to fly. And the time he... never mind! He was great. Every girl should have a big brother like him."

As the eldest of Jon´s siblings, I remember when our mother, Sigrid, brought him home from the St. Croix Falls hospital. I was ten years old when she placed him in my arms. What a beautiful, precious baby boy! Not a blemish! He wasn´t scrawny like other babies I´d seen. He was filled out, fully made, almost chubby. From then on, I wanted to hold him a lot!
