Jon and I went to the Red Barn Preschool together. I remember watching Pippy Longstocking and Monty Python at his house...he and Sarah would laugh and laugh about something absurd and I´d just wrinkle my forehead and try to keep up. I can say the obituary was true in Jon´s youngest years...raw, mischievous, pushing boundaries.
We´d stomp around in knee deep wetland, throw rocks, break sticks, and topple dead trees. Then he´d surprise me by pulling a kitten out of his pocket and cuddling it. Jon kind of scared my parents slightly but I think his laugh and intelligence won them over.
I chatted with Jon last sometime after I finished school (like 20+ years ago). As we sat outside he was tossing rocks at the hubs of his housemate´s car at his dad´s house. He asked about whether you learn much that is necessary in college. Not really I said. Then I said, "aren´t you worried about chipping the paint on that car?"
To Jon´s family, I am sorry life came so fast for you and Jon in his last years. That´s not fair and in Jon´s memory I will plan to laugh hard at something absurd, not care what someone thinks and cuddle a kitten.
