Florence Fischel Obituary

Florence Fischel
Florence (Flossy) Lipson Fischel passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on August 17, 2019 at the age of 73. Flossy was born in Los Angeles, CA, the oldest of three children of Prof. Samuel and Dena Lipson. The family moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1946 and Flossy attended Churchill High School and the University of British Columbia where she majored in Psychology.
Although she was a lifelong proud Canuck, she moved to Stamford in 1973 after meeting her husband, Sam, in Israel. Flossy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who took great care of her family. Her commitment to chesed and to helping others led her to return to university in 1980 for a Masters Degree in Education and again in 2001 for a degree in Social Work.
She was a renowned chef and baker who loved being surrounded by her family for Shabbat and holiday meals. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Sam Fischel, sons Ari (Ellen) Fischel of NY, Dr. Jason (Robin) Fischel of Stamford, CT, daughter Dr. Leah (Greg) Miller of Stamford, CT, brother Morris Lipson (Charline Poirier) of London, England, sister Alisa Lipson (Charles Krieger) of Vancouver, Canada.
She had no bigger joy in life than being a Bubbie to her grandchildren David, Lauren, Alexandra, Ethan, Alexis and Shane, whom she adored. She was loved too by her nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Services will be held at 10am on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Congregation Agudath Sholom. Donations can be made in Flossy's memory to Bi-Cultural Day School or Yad Sarah.

For Flossy:

What can you say about a person whose Uber Rating is 5.0? These days we tend to rate a person with numbers instead of through their character, and for Flossy that was a 100.

We met Sammy and Flossy upon arriving in Stamford back in 1977. Our daughter Sarah and their son Ari would play over our apartment on Prospect Street. Paula and Flossie became life long friends. Just last last month they had lunch and Paula called Flossie last Thursday to get together when Leah answered the phone the news crushing us.

Sammy and I, and with his children, would always kibbutz about this and that we sharing a sense of humor at life's absurdities keeping things in perspective using a sense of humor.

Everyone has a last perfect day. You just never know when yours is so the lesson is to live life to its fullest. They did. They had recently returned from a grand long voyage seeing the world.

Paula and I are proud of the three children and their spouses each persevering towards an ambitious goal becoming successful and meaningful and making a difference in their respective fields.
Their own children, Flossy's grandchildren, should also be pround. But I ask Ari; how come when you started at GE Finance the stock was at 60 and now is at 10?

There is no magnificence in death. It is a quandary. Her soul has become inherent in the greater good varnishing it.

Flossie, you lived a pious and a good life and deserved more years than the flight of of eagle whose super-vision like an X-Ray portends the ethics of the premature recognizing the best person among us. It was you.

It is but the architecture of the spatial anomaly separating this plain of existence and the suspension of infinity that Flossie is in a better place surrounded by the absorption of the tenable whose enduring fortune exists in the clear and wide-eyed eyes of her children, her grandchildren and all those in attendance.

Her participation on behalf of others in the chevra kadisha was a mitzvah for the deceased.

Her grandchildren's footsteps as they make their way through life's vicissitudes will be tempered and made more gracious through Flossy's virtues whereby elucidating them, as but one example of Flossy's unending and unyielding ethical and pious acts of benevolence towards others.

So it is with regret we say goodbye to a wonderful human being who made a difference and an enduring role model for all and was honorably welcomed in The World To Come.

Thinking of the Fischel family. I have fond memories of working with Flossy at the Childcare Learning Centers. She was dedicated to the children and families.
