Sitting here almost 6 years after Jonathan's sacrifice and came to almost know him after reading about him. For this Marine and the others who gave their all -- we are so indebted. May God take care of him and the Marines that are still out there taking care of us. Christ will bring peace to Jonathan's family and Christ will have a US Marine by his side.

The dictionary defines "hero" as "a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities." Heroes come in many forms in life, ranging from one's family and friends to athletes to movie stars. RIP CPL. Jonathan D. Porto Thank you for fighting for our freedom.

Today you welcome me to heaven and sorrow feels your heart even though we are not together we will never be apart.
Our time we had together was cut short in the blink of an eye but you can still see me in all gods’ glory when you look up to the sky.
Why he called me home so soon right now I can’t explain I know you have the answers and your friends all feel your pain
Today you cry and say good bye to the man you knew and loved but I promise you our next time together will be for eternity in heaven above
Now it is time to move on and let me fly up above I know you will not forget me as you will always feel my love as I look down on you today I know why you are sad but please remember even here in heaven you are still my Mom and Dad...........Rest in peace Cpl.Jonathan D.Porto I thank you from the bottom of my heart

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Although he has left the place that so many people loved him, He is not seated at the Lord and Saviour he knew. No more pain, no more death, but basking in the pure unconditional Love and presence of the God he knew. We'll see him again in the morning

Dearest Jonny,
I will always remember you as the boy with the million dollar smile... a smile so infectious. I feel so blessed to have had you in my life, even if it was a short while. And a short while it may have been, but you leave a lasting impression on my soul. You taught me that there is a positive in everything and to build on the sunshine. And I will do just that.

To the Porto family,
Words cannot justify the remorse I feel in the pit of my soul for your loss. Hold onto the memories and keep them fresh. I will pray for peace and strength for you all, as I know it will be needed in the days, weeks, months, and years to come.

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."

Jon, I wish we had made it to your wedding or that we had committed to getting together once you settled in NC. Your light shone so brightly on this short path we call life that, though your path was shorter than most, I know your light will long continue to shine. Your uncle Craig and I have great faith--and are deeply comforted in knowing--that we will see you again. If a day with the Lord truly is like 1,000 years, then from your perspective it won't be very long at all!
