Jonathan Kpakpa Quartey

Jonathan was a joy. He was curious, open, and a delight to know. I am sad to hear of his passing, but know that he was held in love by family, friends, community, and all who knew him.

Did not get to meet him but his spirit seem great and gentle.

His dedication to GaDangme was a marvel to me.
He will drive to Homowo in Philadelphia. He will drive to GDI conference in North New Jersey. And always smiling and cracking jokes.
He will surely be missed

I remember the last time I talked to Mr. Quartey. As usual, he fussed a little bit about not checking on him. I said I'd been engaged with teaching and the business of everyday life. He then asked about my brother and family. I told him all's well. We went on to talk about local, national, and global issues: State of HBCUs, soccer, the up coming Olympic Games, and politics, of course. He was in his usual conversational mood-engaged, informative, keen. I didn't have the chance to call him again.

I'll miss Mr. Quartey: His wisdom, compassion, friendship, and generosity.

Farewell, Mr. Quartey. Jonathan, my dear brother, (yaawo odzogbaa), rest in peace.
