Jonathan Stone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 11 to May 18, 2011.
Stone, Jonathan Irvine passed away on May 9, 2011 at his home in Hopkinton. He was 60 years old and a former long-time resident of Natick. Jon was born on August 28, 1950 and raised in Wellesley by his late parents, Lewis and Zurna Stone. As a professional tree climber and founder of Stone's Tree Service, Jon was happiest while outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed trees, flowers, and gardening. Jon created a green oasis at his previous home in Natick, turning a masterful hand to his gardens and lawns. He also enjoyed cheering on all of his favorite New England home teams, particularly the Patriots. Most especially, Jon loved his family and was enormously proud of his children and their accomplishments. In turn, he was adored by everyone in his extended family and beyond for his humor, generous spirit, and admired for his hardworking approach to life and all it offered. Jon leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 32 years, Beverly, and two children, Matthew Stone of Walpole and Erica Stone of Wellesley. He is survived by his brother Christopher Stone of Framingham, his sisters Debbie Fitzpatrick of Bellingham, Abby MacDonald of Framingham, Tally Lent of Petersham, and Felicia Hoffman of Dover. Jon also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Funeral was held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (Rt 16) WELLESLEY last Friday . Please consider a charitable donation to the Boston Ronald McDonald House. Checks can be sent to 229 Kent Street, Brookline, MA 02446. For directions and guestbook gfdoherty.com

Erica, Matt and Mrs. Stone, I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Jon, but he sounds like a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I will never forget Jon atop my 70 foot pine tree 30 years ago! He took it down all by himself and I was totally amazed by his work. He didn't like to take trees down but this one he said was old and rotten. He worried, as I did, about the birds and squirrels who had made their home in that tree.
Jon was so interesting and had a spirituality about him that was wonderful.
My deepest sympathy to the family.

My favorite memory of Jon was when Erica and Michael went to Murphy for pre-school and we both drove similar station wagons. After dropping them off, Jon got in my car with my sister-inlaw in it by mistake. I don't know who was more surprised!!!! All of you are in our prayers. We are sorry for your loss. Love, Sandy, Michael and Melissa Carter
