Today we celebrate the life of a man who passed away 14 years ago to be with God our lord Jesus Christ and becoming a guardian angel. He was loved by his family, friends, and colleagues. Pepe Alvarez was a kind, caring and loving person. He loved to help others and save lives. Pepe always loved to go fishing. He loved spending time with his wife Cristina, his family, and his close friends.

On behalf of myself and my family, we would like to thank everyone for being part of Pepes life and getting to know him for who he really was.

Seems like only yesterday, we heard your laughter... hear it still these many years... Prayerful for you and your growing family.

Hoy July 15, 2007 nos acabamos de enterar de la muerto de Pepe, Dr. Alvarez. Cristina es Rosa Alvarez, que travajamos juntos en el P.I.P. con Vietes. Me parese estar viendo a Pepe despues de 72 horas de Guardia cuando pasaba a darte un beso y te decia"TIBURON". No sabes las tristeza que nos dio a mi y a Rolando cuando nos enteramos. Aunque no nos mantenimos en contacto despues siempre yo y Rolando hablabamos mucho de ustedes. Tantos recuerdos y momentos que compartimos juntos. Dios le tiene en un lugar my especial en el cielo. Pepe era un gran ser humano y excelente medico. Voy a rezar mucho por ti para que Dios te de la fortaleza y resignacion que necesitas. Yo se lo que es perder a un ser querido, mami murio en Marzo 16, 2006. Muchos bezos y abrazos de parte de Rolando y mio. Espero poder hablar con tigo. Que Dios te vendiga y proteja siempre. Hoy es Marzo 15 del 2007 y me acabo de enterar del fallecimiento del doctor Alvarez he llorado mucho porque lamento mucho su perdida, fui su paciente mientras estuve en dialysis y siempre me trato con mucho carino, casi como si fuera su hija, le envio mis respeto a su familia aunque un poco tarde, porque no solo perdimos un doctor espectacular, tambien perdimos un gran ser humano. Se que todos los que tuvimos el privilegio de conocerlo de alguna forma lo hemos sentido muchisimo.

Dr. Alvarez was a superb physician and teacher. I worked as a radiologist at Cedars - he taught me much about not only surgery, but also about radiology, particularly vascular radiology. He was demanding of high quality work from our group, for he wanted the best for his patients. That's what it always came down to, he wanted to do the best possible for his patients, to give his patients their best chance. I would do an arteriogram for him, show him pictures that sometimes would demonstrate disease no one else would even think about operating on, and he would say, 'danny, i think i can do it this way.' I last saw Pepe in June 2005, having a grand time at the Samurai with his family. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Alvarez, his children and family.

To The Alvarez Family,

So sorry to just hear of the loss of Pepe.I worked at Cedars for 17 years in OR, ICU and 12South. He was the delight of most nurses, he was kind, smart and always treated everyone like a friend. The world was a much better place because he was here, even if the time was too short. He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Alvarez saved my leg and

my life. He was a wonderful doctor. My deepest sympathy to his

wife and family.

I worked with Pepe for two years while with SGoM. His energy and excitement were contagious to all who knew him. His love for his family, life, and surgery was evident everyday.



In one way or another, Pepe improved virtually every person he came in contact with. And his passing has caused tears to be shed throughout the world.



Christina, it was an honor to know, to learn from, and to work with Pepe. I will remember him always.

I regret that we were out of town and missed the memorial service. As one of Pepe's partners ,I recognized him as a brilliant and talented surgeon abd above all, a great human being. His passing is a loss to the entire community, and especially to me, personally. Our deepest sympathies to the family.

I would like to express my sympathy to the Alvarez family. My family has known the Alvarez family ever since I can remmember.I have always considered Pepito and Chiqui as cousins .I have memories of our parents and us playing baseball at the 16th street park as kids with Jorge and Chuckie. Also remember Pepitos devotion to education when we would visit his parents home he was often hitting the books. In my mind I knew Peppito and Chiqui would make a mark while in this world , and they have. Chiqui during the services I did not have a chance to express my sympathy but as you know my family holds your family very dear in our hearts .

Chist taught us how to love, and live.

My Brother, helped the sick with his hands, scalpel and God's help above all.

I know when the need comes for a Vascular Surgeon in Heaven He'll be there for everyone, just like he was here on Earth.

When Baptist 4 Main made one of it's many specialty changes (to cardio-vascular), I became very aware of Dr. (Pepe) Alvarez, his work, and great rapport with his peers, staff, and especially his patients. He always had a sparkle, zest and zeal for life. One would just hear his voice and smile, when he came onto the unit.



I last saw him in 2004, post-surgery, on his 1st visit to the BCVI Gallery, meeting his lovely wife... his driver for the day. I was enthralled by them, as a beautiful couple and in the reflection of their affection for each other... both hopeful for the future.



He will be deeply missed by the medical community In Miami and those of us, "far-and-away"... My deepest sympathy to his wife and family.

I have worked with Pepe for 20 years, at Baptist Hospital. He was a wonderful surgeon and friend; his caring ways and kind words will always be cherished. May fond memories and his love live with you forever. I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers. I know he will continue to watch over us.

I was terribly saddened to hear of Dr. Alvarez’s passing. It was my extreme pleasure to have worked with him and the entire Surgical Group of Miami, as their secretary, when they ran the Vascular Lab, at the Miami VA Hospital. Words can’t even begin to describe how lucky I feel to have been able to work with Dr. Alvarez and the SGM!! They provided me with a great deal of knowledge that I know I could never of learned from any textbook. It was a pleasure and an honor to know and work with Dr. Alvarez, he was definitely a favorite of mine to work with!!

I first heard of the Alvarez's brothers from their very proud parents with whom I worked with at Mercy Hosp.in the early 70s. I first met Dr. Alvarez at St.Agatha and later on he operated on my father. We pray for him and his beloved family.
