Jose Barrera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 7, 2023.

With profound sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved father, Jose "Pepe" Barrera, who departed this life on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, at the age of 88. A cherished son, devoted husband, nurturing father, and cherished brother, his absence leaves a void that words cannot fill.

Jose is survived by his devoted wife, Marie-Paule, and seven adoring children: JoAnn (Rene), Sylvia (Sheldon), Andre, Christina (Jeffery), Daniel (Sherry), Javiel (Rosy), and Christella. His legacy extends further through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brothers Santiago Jr. and Jorge, and his sister Edna.

He reunites in eternal rest with his parents, Santiago Sr. and Estanislada, and four sisters, Josepha, Horencia, Francisca, and Bertha, who preceded him in death.

Born in Santa Cruz, Texas, on June 4th, 1935, Jose's life journey was one marked by love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. His warmth, guidance, and unconditional love will forever remain in our hearts.

A veteran of the Air Force, Jose dedicated a significant portion of his life in service to his country. He retired honorably from the Air Force and continued his professional journey at ExxonMobil Corporation, showcasing his dedication and work ethic.

Moreover, Jose's adventurous spirit was evident from a young age. He pursued various passions, including a remarkable period as a jockey during his youth, displaying his agility, determination, and love for horsemanship.

A homegoing service celebrating Jose's life will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at 10 am, at Alaniz Funeral Home, located at 516 N. St. Mary's Street in Falfurrias, Texas, where friends and family are invited to honor and remember him. Mass will take place following the rosary. Subsequently, burial will occur in Rios, Texas, at the family cemetery with Full Military Honors rendered by JBSA -Lackland Honor Guard ..

After the burial service, a meal will be served at the Conception Hall in Conception, Texas, where those gathered can share cherished memories and support one another in remembrance of Jose.

May we find solace in the cherished memories and lessons imparted by Jose during his time with us. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will endure for generations to come.
