Jose Ferreira Martins, 79, of Tulare, CA, passed away on December 30, 2023. He was born on February 2, 1944, in Terceira, Acores. Jose was a hard-working husband, father, and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and always had his grandkids laughing. He had a deep love for animals and would bring home any stray he came across.
Jose is survived by his four sons: Fernando Martins (Kathryne), Carlos Martins (Tina), Steve Martins (Elizabeth), and Tony Martins (Heather); fourteen grandchildren: Kelly Gauna (Zack), Cassandra Franco (Nick), Alyssa Ferreira (Joey), Nicole Martins, Matthew Martins, Kymber Martins, Ashley Martins, Gabriella Vasquez, Makenzie Martins, Tiani Martins, Montana Martins, Joshua Martins, Mylee Martins, and Elayna Martins; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers; one sister; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Maria Martins, his parents, Elvira and John Martins, and his brother, John Inacio.
Jose attended primary school in Acores. He also proudly served in the Portuguese Army from 1964 to 1967.
Throughout his career, Jose worked in the agricultural industry. He dedicated his life to his work and made significant contributions to the field.
In his free time, Jose enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trying his luck at the casino. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to unwind from his busy schedule.
A viewing will be held on Monday, January 8, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Miller's Funeral Home in Tulare, CA. The Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will take place the following day, Tuesday, January 9, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 954 S. "O" Street, Tulare, CA 93274. The burial will follow at North Tulare Cemetery.
Miller's Funeral Home in Tulare, CA, is honored to assist the family during this difficult time.

My kids always loved going out to the property to play with the dogs and pet the horse and cows. Hailey be trying to bring every puppy home with her! He loved showing them around the animals and bringing grain out for them to feed to the horse and cows.
