PEABODY — Joseph S. Amerault, 93, of Peabody, died on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his home after a short illness.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1915 and was raised in Middle East, Pubnico, Nova Scotia, Canada . He later resided in Ipswich for many years before moving to Peabody 30 years ago.
He had been a carpenter with the local carpenters union for 35 years before retiring in 1975.
He had been a veteran of World War II serving with the Navy Seabees 58th construction battalion and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon.
He was a member of the VFW Post 1093 of Ipswich.
He had been the husband of the late Audrey G. (Glenola) Amerault and the late Dorothy C. Amerault.
Joe enjoyed playing cribbage and pool at the Senior Center in Danvers and going to the Dog Track in Seabrook, N.H.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and James Peel of Clearwater, Fla.; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph and Alice Amerault Jr. of Camarillo, Calif., Douglas Amerault of San Bernardino, Calif. and Larry Amerault of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Roger Amerault of Newbury; three sisters, Elizabeth Cochran of Georgetown, Lorraine Amerault and Nora Harrington both of Ipswich; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was the father of the late Shirley Scott and the grandfather of the late Stephen Peel.
