Mike and Mary,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I really respect your father for the family man that he was. He really loved you all and made your well-being his number one priority.

I'm sure he left you with a world of gifts that you will carry with you through a lifetime and pass on to your own children someday.

To lose the head of your family is an explosion of unbearable grief. May Our God see you through this and hold you all in His loving arms.

Joe Bendel did a lot of wonderful things, but the three things I will remember most is:

1. His wonderful onion soup that he made for a family gathering of the Evangels when Beth, Kristy, and Liz were in the Passion Play together.

2. His coming to the Combined Federal Campaign Day of Caring at the McKeesport Rails to Trails Head. We were clearing the weeds and trees. He had offered assistance from the City and was pleased with the efforts of McKeesport High School. It was wonderful working with the teenagers, the City's Crew and talking to Joe, who was then mayor.

3. Seeing him at this year's St. Peter's (old name) Annual Fair with Chinese Auction Tickets sticking out of his hat. The sight was so wonderful, I just had to buy a few tickets. I didn't care if I won or not, and I didn't win. But I did get to see and talk to Joe again this year.

Sorry, I didn't mean to write a book. We felt so bad that we did not learn of his death until late last night when it was too late to make arrangements with work so our family could be with yours today.
