Joe was a very fine Tennis Player that I met and played with at the Lakewood Country Club courts in Lakewood, CA. His good health and long life he attributed to playing lots of Tennis around the world. At his Memorial Service in San Pedro, no mention was made of his Tennis prowess. This is an element that is greatly missing in remembering him and his life. All those that played with him, starting with Tony Prodan, then Ken Stuart, and Herb Flam, Bob Hertz, Harvey Hunyady, George Richards, Gene Simpson, Dale Jensen, Bud Black(his court assistant), Herbie Egelko, Bob Benjamin, George Tate, Gus Van't Hof, Don Pletz, Dusty Rhodes, and Bob Taylor have very fond memories of Joe for his play, generosity, cases of Stat-Kist Tuna, humor, sportsmanship, betting on every match, meals and dinners hosted, and overall kindness. He was ONE of a kind to all of the Tennis players and will never be replaced or forgotten. Dale Jensen

I have used that expression so many times over the years. I do weekly volunteer work at a retirement home and every time someone askes me how I am feeling, I say, "I feel like a million dollar baby!"

I worked as a teller at the U.S.National Bank during the 50's and 60's. Captain Bogdanovich would always select me to wait on him. I remember him as a handsome, well dressed man, always wore a hat or cap! I would always say, "How are you today, Captain! And he would say, with his wonderful accent, "I feel like a million dollar baby!"

My Dad Manuel Mauricio Cardozo was captain of the tuna boat Mauritania.

He was a partner and a real good friend Of Joe's and spoke of him often and truly appreciated their friendship. It is good that they are together again in the house of the Lord. We pray for his soul and his family.

I picture Joe Sr. on his beautiful Arabian stallion, and it makes me smile. I remember parties after the Caballeros rides, parties at "Boggy's" or at the Jenkins. What a great way to grow up. The entire Nielsen's family joins me in sending our sympathy at the passing of an amazing man.
