A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at St. John Berchmans Cathedral. Officiating will be Father Karl Daigle. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Mr. Brocato was a native and lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Brocato was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church for more than 50 years where he served as an usher. He was a graduate of Fair Park High School, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 62 years. He was a combat veteran of World War II and served in the Army in the Pacific Theater.

In 1945, Joseph met Mary Elizabeth Jones. Three years later, the two were wed at St. John Berchmans Cathedral. Together, the couple built a house in Broadmoor where they raised three children and lived many happy years.

Mr. Brocato will be remembered for the care he provided for ailing members of his family over the years as well as for always standing ready to serve family and friends in any way he could. He was a devoted, loving father to his children. In addition to caring for his family, he was dedicated to his career by providing exceptional service that he had become known for by everyone in his industry. He was employed by Cahn Electric Company for over 50 years. In Mr. Brocato's final years of employment, the Governor of the state of Louisiana, in 1990, awarded him the Caddo Parish Older Worker of the Year Award.

Mr. Brocato was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Elizabeth Jones Brocato. He is survived by his three children, his daughter Annette Seamands and husband Patrick of St. Louis, Missouri, and oldest son Rickey Joseph Brocato and wife Elizabeth of Houston, Texas, and his youngest son Michael Brocato of Irving, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Aaron Seamands and wife Jamie Ann of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Jaime Elizabeth Smith and husband Tim of Houston, Texas, and Adam and Mark Brocato of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by one great grandchild, John Robert (Jack) Seamands of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Pallbearers will be Adam and Mark Brocato, Tim Smith, Blaise Parker, Harry Layton, and Gary Jenkins.

The family suggests that memorials, if made, are contributed to a charity of one's choice.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Glen Retirement Home as well as the sitters of Home Instead that provided tender loving care to Mr. Brocato in his final months on earth. Special thanks is given to Mrs. Virginia Dixon who brightened the days and activities of Mr. Brocato as well as for providing special comfort to his family by letting them know that Mr. Joe was being given extra special care. A very special thank-you is given to Maxine Jenkins who has been a good friend and companion to Joseph for the past 13 years. Mr. Brocato will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

To Mike Brocato,

I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I remember your parents from the days when we were classmates at Hamilton Terrace, many years ago. May you and your family find comfort during this difficult time.

Friends from the past,

Betty

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Joseph Albert Brocato our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Joseph. And to Joseph it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Army. Joseph we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,452 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Joseph’s family and loved ones.
