Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend

Joseph George Capone, age 79, a longtime resident of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Somerville and Salem, MA, passed away on October 25, 2022, from heart and lung complications in Scottsdale, AZ, surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston, MA, on June 4, 1943, son of the late Edward and Marie Capone of Somerville, MA. Joseph is survived by his wife, Barbara Capone (Bevilacqua) of Medford, MA; his daughter, Valerie Capone of Scottsdale, AZ; Stephen Capone and his wife Denise of Montclair, NJ; Christine Capone and partner Derek Burt of Frazier Park, CA; and Michele Capone of Boston, MA. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren Michael Marroni, Joelle Capone, and Jack Malyerck, and a loving "Papa" to his beloved dogs Henry and Daisy, and the late Max and Marty.

Joseph grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1961. He later joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and served until 1967. Joseph attended ITT Technical Institute, Boston, MA, earning a degree in electrical/mechanical design. He worked for many years as an electrical/mechanical designer of integrated circuit boards at Raytheon, notably as part of the team during the time the company had been awarded the subcontract to build the guidance computer for the successful Apollo Moon Program, and later at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Hanscom Air Force Base, as an electrical designer.

Joseph's entrepreneurial spirit first began when he became the Commander of the John McDonald Post No. 6, Somerville, MA, Kearsarge Association of Armed Forces, Inc. In 1991, he opened the Gourmet Coffee House in Swampscott, MA, with his wife Barbara. In 2001, Joseph retired, and in 2004, he relocated to Scottsdale, AZ, where he enjoyed the warm weather, beautiful scenery, and lifestyle. He lived a full life, loved his family dearly, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany and Portugal. He was creative, loved writing, and sketching the design of new inventions that he felt solved everyday problems. Joseph was known for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He had many friends and was loved and entertained by everyone who met him.

A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 571 Boston Street, Lynn, MA, on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 1p. Following the service, a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held for family and friends at the VFW, 8 Pine Street, Swampscott, MA, from 3-6p. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org or the ASPCA at www.aspca.org.
