To All of Joey's family...I have sent cards to Laura and to Mary. Although I haven't responded here, and I am not very savy with a computer, I wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to all of you for the loss of Joey. I will always remember his gentle disposition, his ready smile, and his generosity of warmth and welcome when I came to visit him in Texas. Also, growing up with Joey...he was fun, engaging, and someone I looked forward to visiting and playing with as a kid! What a great picture of him here...it really depicts the warmth of his personality that he always conveyed to others! Please know that you are all thought of during this most difficult time..and I too grieve with you of our loss.! May his soul and his beloved life be now returned to his loved ones who have passed before him...God Bless You! Love, Maria Gennari

Very sad to hear of Joe's passing. He was a terrific guy with a great sense of humor and obviously was a man of many talents. It was a pleasure to be his classmate. My heart goes out to his family. RIP Joe.

I was sorry to read about Joe's passing. Even though we weren't close friends in high school, Joe was always a friendly and happy person to be around.
My condolences go out to the Coughlin family.

Letter from a little sister to a big brother : Thank you for the tickles , the hugs, the kisses with your scratchy mustache . For the rides in your open Jeep and motorcycle and up in the air on your feet . The smile on your face when I made you a peanut butter sandwich, gifts from Disney Land, Christmas when I was ten, coming home to drive me across country to live in the big city with you , your laugh , your undivided attention , your presence . Thank you to everyone who prayed fervently for Joe the last 2 1/2 years , especially to my four sisters and brother for sharing my loss and broken heart . Thank you to our brave and faithful mother for keeping our family safe and close and unbroken . Thank you to Laura , Jacki , Lisa and Elizabeth for loving my brother so dearly and making his life complete . Thank you to Saint Jude and Saint Ann for their intercession in bringing Joe and his entire family home to his beloved Berkshires after his initial victory over cancer , and to all his providers at MDAHospital. Thank you to Saint Theresa for fulfilling her promises and for sending me a rose . And finally ... thank you to Saint Bartholomew for interceding for Joey so that he no longer suffered .

This truly saddens me. I have known this man, his family, brother & sisters since high school. Even though time drifted us apart, in recent years I had again connected with Joe and Laura. As I read all these loving tributes, I wholly agree there was never a more gentle or loving soul. Always smiling and bringing laughter into the world. I know he will be greatly missed. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. My sincerest sympathy.

I remember Joe as a friend and a good football player at St. Joe. He was always friendly
and positive in the way he related to people.
He clearly has passed away far too soon.
God Bless!

Cousins are amazing to have and grow up with. Someone as special as Joey can never be forgotten. I will always remember him as selfless, kind and compassionate and as a great son to my beloved Aunt Eleanor.

Joe was my dear brother in law....he was one of the most peaceful, funny, simple-living people I have known. He loved my sister Laura. I remember so clearly the day that Joe and Laura wed in my parents backyard in Holliston Mass. It was a rainly July day, all the Coughlins arrived and our few family and friends, and then the sky parted and the sun came out and what a beautiful ceremony and day it was. Laura and Joe were young and I worried about them as they drove off in their old van headed for California. They had three wonderful daughters Jacki, Lisa, and Elizabeth, who Joe loved dearly, as well as his son in law, grandsons, nieces, and nephews, his sisters and brother, his dear friends, and all of his wonderful family in Pittsfield and now in various part of Texas and beyond. He loved being outdoors with the wind at his back on his motorcycles or in his Jeep (he loved that Jeep); he so loved his Yankees and then the Astros (an acquired taste), and a quiet afternoon on his back deck with the family dogs or tinkering in the garage. Joe taught us how to live simply, love lots, and appreciate a sense of humor. Joe was a funny man and a kind and gentle man and we are all better for having him in our lives. Thank you Joe.

Joey is my cousin and we lived on the same street for about a decade. I witnessed first hand his remarkable creative talents in everything from automobile model building in his youth to wood working projects for his daughters as an adult. But his most remarkable talent was his warm, helping manner which made him loved by everyone who knew him. Joey was often called on to help others and he was always good natured about helping those who were much younger than him. He was a giving person. Joey will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
