It is October, it is this day again. And as I promised, I am writing here again.
Stella, Sophie, and Clara. I hope you will read this one day, because we are doing it for you. We want you to know, girls, that we always keep you in our hearts and thoughts, in our conversations, and dreams. And we will always wait for the day we will see you again. Sani and Brad were our best friends, and we miss them every day. We spent our favorite moments together, we have so many memories, and we can't wait to share them with you.

Memories of Clara popped into my head a couple of days ago. My subconscious must have realized this sad anniversary was approaching. Thankfully my thoughts turned to the fun we had in kindergarten the year she was in my class. Sending love and hugs to Clara!

I will never forget this day. And I promised to myself and to Sani's and Brad's children that I will write here every year on this day. I miss my friends, I think about them as if they never left, I still drive by their house, I go by the Marina... they come in my dreams...

Clara, I think of you often, remembering what a wonderful addition you were to our kindergarten class. I also remember talking with Mr. Pechin, our art teacher, about what an amazing artist you were for someone so young. That is definitely something that runs in your family. Miss you!

Still missing you Brad and Alexandra; it still is difficult to look at the house every single day and realize that both of you are no longer with us. ...Another year has passed . It seems that life is stronger than anything, wrapping the time around our every day activities and chores, pushing us forward with good and bad moments...And on days like today, we take a breath, as we realize that every second is precious, we shed a tear as we cannot turn the time back, and the choking sadness mixes up with the gratitude that we've had so many good moments together, and nobody could take them away from us.

Jackie and MC. We only met once when I stayed in your home many years ago and I can't say I really got to know you, but I have so much respect for you as parents and human beings. To have produced such a wonderful human being as your son, you must be in possession of something wonderful.

This last week I am reminded that life is brutal and the world today consistently seeks out the best and purest and most innocent as its target, but still it is a good world that allowed me to know Brad and consider him as one of my few friends. It must be a good world that allowed people like you to produce such a wonderful man, and if it is not, we at least have all benefitted from the inspiration he has provided to us all.

I believe Brad was one of the most intelligent and good-hearted people I have ever met. His intellect and courage have always been an inspiration to me. He saw as much as any of us can see of the ugliness and injustice that plagues this planet, but he always had a grace and courage that compelled me to demand more of myself. He only made the world better and there are so few people who can make that claim.

That is why I can't offer any condolences, because the hole that has been created in my heart from his absence is only going to fester and hurt. And feeling this pain I realize it is such a fraction of what you must be suffering that any words that I can offer are just cheap and meaningless.

Instead, I want to congratulate you for bringing up such a good boy who became such a perfect man. As a father I hope that I can somehow set my son upon such a righteous path as you prepared for Brad. I hope that I can find whatever power you both discovered that can nurture such a man as can burn so bright as Joseph Bradley Davis did during his time with us.

Someday Stella, Sophie, and Clara may need to hear exactly why I thought so highly of your son, their father, and why his leaving has left the world so much poorer. I can only take encouragement in the fact that these girls carry not only his light, but Alexandra's light as well. If ever they reach that point, as I did with the loss of my father, where they need a reminder of how large and how special their parents were, I would like to think you would feel at liberty to contact me and Evelia. We have so many good stories to share and so many reasons why they need to carry on that light. There is no denying that the world just got a lot darker, but just as you both created something so wonderful, I have to believe that Brad and Sani also invested their goodness in your grandchildren.

Congratulations and thanks for what you both did in making this world a better place for the time that Brad was with us. Please know that what I am trying to express here is shared by so many people throughout this small planet that I think you would be truly overwhelmed to know his impact.

I met Alexandra when she opened up her business in Erie. She was such a great addition to the community and a breath of fresh air. She was very passionate, caring, articulate, talented & smart but most of what I learned about her through our conversations was that she loved her family and especially her daughters so very much.
