Time passes us by......
Were sitting here in the south of Sweden cleaning out old folders on my computer and found our correspondence from 2009. The last time we visited you in Lourmarin. It was a nice summers day and we all had lunch in the village. I remember Elisabeth had strawberries with cream for desert. You were always so kind and joyful. I don´t know how many times we have talked about contacting you for another visit and now it´s to late. We will forever acquaint Lourmarin with the company of you and Elisabeth. You had a big part in us discovering Provence and it´s beauty. Thank you Joe where ever you may be and our deepest condolences to your family.

Who better to recommend a Pizza but someone of Italian origin. It was Joe put us on the the one in Cadenet Luberon Provence. He said is was the "Best This Side Of Suez" and it was. He knew his coffee also, it was on his advice I changed over to using 100% Arabica & a Moka Bialetti TM to brew it in. Forget not "IL Postino" that wonderful Italian movie about Pablo Neruda (subtitled in English). Another one of Joe's must see films. So there you have it, a triptych of "Delightful Delicious Deliso's".

Joe was a major presence in the "Golden Age" of English-teaching in Aix-en-Provence during the 1970's. I met Joe through Terry Poppa, and Joe introduced me to Michele Thomas, who helped me get started in the ESL game. Joe was generous and friendly, and I considered him a friend. He was part of the reason why I became a career teacher. I remember that we both liked "quenelle." I was sad to hear of his passing, but I was also glad to see that he had accomplished much of what he wanted in life.

When we were homeless in a Lourmarin Winter, Joe gave my wife and I, an apartment at Les Olivettes for three months, free of charge. He had no doubt a great knowledge of food and not only French Cuisine, it was he who suggested an easy to miss little corner Pizza House in Cadenet which was Nulli Secundus. I remember driving him to Marseille some years back for a surgical intervention which to me seemed serious enough to wipe a smile off anyones face, but Joe laughed and joked all the way there from Lourmarin. He rebounded from that, must have been 15 years back, I left,
back in Ireland now. I did write a poem re Joe and that hospital visit, I wish I could find and include now, but alas, it is gone back into the same I Cloud as Joe, Nimbus I hope, near Mars where there is a Bar serving Chianti Classico.

Condolences to his family. He was a good man and great classmate.
