1934 - 2013
Joseph John DeNardi, Jr. passed away May 28, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after complications from an intestinal rupture that made recovery impossible. Joe was born May 10, 1934 to Joseph John DeNardi, Sr. and Mary Dorothy Settles in St. Marys, Kentucky with five sisters.
He worked with his father as a painter, and then joined the Navy when he was 18 for four years as a Machinist Mate First Class, and traveled the world, even though he was seasick. After the Navy he worked at Square D in Lexington, KY full time while also attending college. He moved to Idaho 49 years ago to escape the overpopulated east and to enjoy the beauty, hunting and fishing that Idaho had to offer.
Joe was a proud member of the Boise Fire Department and retired after 25 years of service as a Captain. He began his own business, Boise Cylinder Head Service, while at the Fire Department. He was a member of the Boise Fire Department Credit Union where he served over 30 years on the board, the Opaline Water District Board of Directors, the Italian American Club, the Boise 4 Wheelers, the Capital 4x4's, and the Marsing American Legion.
After retirement he spent the last 22 years as a snowbird in Yuma, AZ, along with his beloved and extended retired firemen family. He would fish for catfish from his deck on the river, and his dogs trained themselves to go down the bank, and bring the fish back to lie at his feet.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Aline Thompson DeNardi of 59 years of marriage, two children; Debbie (Jim) DeNardi Bier and Mike (Karlee) DeNardi, and a son by choice; Jay (Lori) Stark. His eleven grandchildren include; Mary (Ryan) Brown, Kristin (Bubs) Dayton, Philip (Annie) Sansotta, Nathan (Kayla) DeNardi, Brandi (John) Kessel, Michaela (Dan) DeNardi, Brooke Fry, Raeh Stark, Teah Stark, Andrea Sanders and James Sanders, and 13 great-grandchildren. He has two sisters, Theresa (Buddy) Snyder, Louisville, KY, and Betty (Ron) Gibson, Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Agnes Luckett, Dorothy Mattingly, Catherine Cox, and one infant brother; James DeNardi.
Viewing will be held at 6pm followed by a rosary at 7pm on Tuesday, June 4th, at Holy Apostles Church, 6200 Meridian Road, Meridian, Idaho. Funeral services are Wednesday, June 5th, at 1pm at Holy Apostles Church with fireman honors. Military internment will be at the Veterans Cemetery, 351 Collins Road, Boise at 3pm. A dinner will follow immediately after at the Canyon Creek Restaurant, located at the Shilo Inn, 1411 Shilo Drive, Nampa, ID. Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 North Cloverdale Road, Boise, is in charge of services and flowers.
The family would like to thank all the staff at West Valley and St. Luke's, Meridian for all the care and dignity they gave to our father during his stay.
