I read about Joe's death in the Duquesne University magazine. I haven't lived in Pittsburgh since the late 70's, but, I still recall Joe DeNardo doing the weather on T.V. I guess he's a guy who stuck in everyone's memory.

Deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the DeNardo family and friends who will feel his absence most keenly. I always watched him when he was the weatherman, you could trust what he said and he never, ever sensationalized. It was what it was. Godspeed.

Before setting my sights on a career in architectural illustration and design and becoming one of Pittsburgh's well known fine artists, I wanted to become a meteorologist and storm chaser. I was fascinated by the weather from a young age and still am and I had a passion for severe weather and storm dynamics. When I was in junior high, I wrote a letter to Joe DeNardo. I still remember that snowy November night when my young sister picked up the telephone excitedly screaming, "It's Joe DeNardo!" over and over. Joe took a few minutes out of his busy work day to talk to me about the weather, to keep working hard and to never give up on my dream. He was larger than life and a Pittsburgh icon who will be greatly missed. May God bless his family, friends and all the lives he touched through the years. Rest in peace Mr. DeNardo!

I am sorry for your loss. I first met Joe on the CB radio. He would be driving in from the Allegheny County Air port and I was at home. He called himself Lightening Rod and I was Disco Lady. We talked many times. I was able to give him and his wife a dog after they lost theirs. My son and I went to his home several times to see his train display. Joe was a very interesting and caring man. It has been my great pleasure to know him. He will surely be missed and remembered fondly.
Rest in Peace Joe and God speed.

Jeff and Doug,

I am sorry for your loss. Your dad and mom were wonderful people who always welcomed me into your house. Guy, he will always be Mr. DeNardo to me not just "Joe".

My daughter and I will always remember Mr. DeNardo so fondly. When she was 3 or 4 my daughter rammed a child's grocery cart right into Joe's legs at the Giant Eagle in Moon. I was horrified, but Joe was so very kind and forgiving. He will be missed in Moon Township and all over the Pittsburgh area. He was a true gentleman.

To Jeff and Doug, I was saddened to hear of the loss of your father. You have my deepest sympathies. Your father was a great weatherman and you were all such nice neighbors growing up. I remember everyone playing football and frisbee in the Rossi's yard. Those were fun times on Beaver Grade Rd. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, and may you find comfort knowing your dad had an amazing life and is now in a better place. My deepest condolences, Beverly

My condolences to Joe's family and friends. Pittsburgh has lost an icon. I worked for the DeNardo McFarland Weather Service from 1970 to 1974. It was a pleasure to know Joe and working for him greatly helped my career as a meteorologist. I am very thankful for that. He was a great man and did so much for Pittsburgh.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Joe De Nardo. He didn't have to dramatize the weather, he told it simply and honesty. He was more like an old friend to the viewers and not just a performer. He and the late Paul Long were good friends in the way they kidded with each other. You knew his predictions were accurate and didn't depend solely on the radar and computer generations. Very few times he was incorrect. He also cared about others in helping the homeless with Project Bundle Up. You could tell he was a warm and kind person. He will be greatly beloved and sadly missed. May he rest in the blissful peace he well deserved.
