Joseph "Joe" W. Eaker, Jr.

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Joseph William Eaker, Jr., 86, of 1992 Bud Arthur Bridge Road, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at his home. Born December 9, 1922, in Cowpens, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph William Eaker, Sr. and Bertie Vassey Eaker. He was a retired painter and paint contractor. He was a member of Cannons Campground United Methodist Church and the Cannons Ruritan Club, a Mason and Shriner, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lillie Arthur Eaker; a son, Joseph William Eaker, III of Spartanburg; a grandson, David Shawn Eaker and his wife Tammy, and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Eaker, all of Port Orange, FL; two brothers, John Eaker of Mayo, and Dorrance Eaker of Gaffney; and a sister, Dora Turner of Cherokee Springs. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Arthur Eaker; and two sisters, Mildred Sprinkle and Mary Scruggs.
Cryptside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. Douglas Gilliland and Dr. James W. Ivey. The family will receive friends following the service at the Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cannons United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3450 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
