I have just learned of Joe's death and am very saddened by his passing. I had the pleasure of being associated with him at Freeport Minerals Company, Freeport Queensland Nickel, Inc., Freeport Gold Company and Pittston Coal Company. He was a mentor and a person I admired very much. As was the case with so many others, he taught me a great deal - all of which have served me well over the years. I am glad to have known him and to have been associated with him. The world has lost one of its best financial and analytical minds. My deepest sympathy to his family. I shall pray for God to bless his soul.

To Sue, I am deeply saddened to learn of Joe's passing. Although I am unable to attend the funeral services Monday, you will be in my prayers. Thank you for the many happy years you brought to and shared with Joe.
To Christopher, Michael and John, whom I have not seen since Elko, Nevada, take care of each other and may God bless and guide you.
I first met Joe in the late 1970s at Freeport Kaolin. I began working for him in 1980 at Freeport Gold, then at Pittston Coal, and lastly, at BAX Global until his retirement in 1998. As I look back on those eighteen years, I can say it was a privilege to work for Joe. He taught me so many things. He supported me, challenged me and entertained me. I still have and use the financial calculator he encouraged me to purchase in 1980. He was truly a numbers man. A day on the job with Joe may take you in a direction you never planned but it would never be dull. It is an understatement to say Joe had a tremendous influence in my life -- only second to my father.
Again, it is with a sad heart that I write these words. May God be with you, comfort you and hold you in His loving arms.
