Joseph Follansbee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 9 to Aug. 13, 2023.
Nashville ? Greg died at home on August 5, 2023, with family at his side. He was born on January 25, 1947, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Lewis L. Follansbee and Lucille Hanawalt Follansbee. At age eight, after his father died, Greg moved with his mother and older brother to Worthington, Ohio. He was a proud graduate of Bishop Watterson High School and The Ohio State University. He also served in the US Army Reserves. Following graduation from OSU, Greg lived and worked in Ohio, Colorado, and Maryland. He was working at SSA headquarters in Baltimore when he met his wife, Chris. A whirlwind courtship ensued and shortly after they married he supported Chris in her wish to move back to TN. He often referred to Nashville as "son-in-law city" due to the number of men he met who, like him, moved here because of their wives.

Greg recently retired from the Buckeye Company, a small business he owned and operated for more than 25 years. He was an avid reader, optimistic golfer, and proud husband to Chris and father to Lucy. In addition to logging many miles as a supportive basketball dad, he especially enjoyed watching college football and professional soccer, working the NYT crossword puzzle, sipping a good Manhattan and traveling. He and Chris traveled extensively, but possibly his favorite trip was with Lucy in 2019 to see the FIFA Women's World Cup in Lyon, France.

Greg is survived by Christian Hudson Follansbee, his wife of 34 years, his daughter Lucy Bishop Follansbee of Denver and Nellie, his devoted dog. Other survivors include in-laws Gail Follansbee, Sally and Gary Raymond, John and Deb Hudson, and Lee and Janet Hudson in addition to many nephews and nieces who lovingly referred to him as Uncle HoHo. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Lawrence L. Follansbee. He will be remembered for his relaxed manner that put everyone at ease, his sharp wit and intellect, and his loyalty to family and friends.

There will be a private family service to celebrate his life. Memorial contributions may be made to Alive Hospice, Planned Parenthood, or the Vanderbilt Lung Transplant Fund.
