Georgetown:

Joseph F. Maloney III

December 8, 1948 -October 30, 2022

Joseph F. MaloneyIII, beloved husband, died suddenly at his home in DeBordieu Colony,

Georgetown, South Carolina. He was 73 years old.

The son of Joseph F. and Margaret Dillon Maloney, Joseph was born on December 8, 1948 in

Newburgh, NY; and educated at St. Patrick's High School in Newburgh and Fordham University in

New York City. Joseph enlisted in Fordham's ROTC program and was commissioned as a Second

Lieutenant in the US Army Field Artillery.

Joe's business career spanned 35 years with The Bank of New York. He was a Senior Vice

President and Managing Director responsible for the Middle Market Business Banking and Small

Business Banking sectors. He was motivated and gratified by assisting entrepreneurs in the tri-state

area grow their businesses and contribute to the prosperity and social fabric of their local communities. During his time at The Bank of New York, Joe mentored many young bankers who went on to successful careers.

Joe was married to his wife, Susan, for 39 years. In marrying Susan, Joe found a true and

loving partner. They shared a commitment to education and to being actively engaged in their

community. The couple split their time between Newburgh and DeBordieu Colony until 2020.

Joe was generous with his time. He served as the Campaign Chair of Orange County United

Way and as a Director of Orange County Partnership, Newburgh Revitalization Corporation,

Westchester County Association and a Trustee of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. He and his

wife Susan were long time supporters of Mount Saint Mary College, and served as Co-Chairs of the

"Answering the Call" Campaign to construct the Math Science and Technology wing of Aquinas Hall. Most recently Joe joined the Board of Friendship Place, a South Carolina nonprofit, and helped lead them through a very successful capital campaign.

An avid golfer, Joe was a long time member of the Powelton Club where he served on the

Board in several capacities. Most recently Joe was a member of DeBordieu Golf Club where he served on the Golf Committee. His love of golf would lead him to travel to some of the world's great golf courses and to become certified by the USGA in the Rules of Golf.

Mentor, teacher and friend, Joe was appreciated by those who knew him for his honesty and

integrity. Thoughtful and articulate, he was a trusted and loyal source of advice, known for his

kindness, generosity, and quick wit. He was a consummate gentleman. Joe's enduring legacy will be the lasting impact his generosity of spirit will have on the institutions and the lives he touched.

Along with his wife, Susan, Joe is survived by many cousins.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on November 19 at the Precious

Blood of Christ Catholic Church, 1633 Waverly Rd., Pawleys Island, SC29585. Internment will follow at the Columbarium. The service will be live streamed on pboccchurch.com.
