Our beloved Joe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his dear sisters Mary and Molly. Joe was born at St. Paul's Hospital and attended Kerrisdale Elementary, Lord Byng High School and completed his B.A. at UBC. He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1954, followed by a Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery (Edmonton) and completed his residency in General Surgery at Virginia Mason, Seattle. His career as a surgeon was spent providing compassionate care to many at St. Vincent's and St. Paul's Hospitals. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Dola, sharing 51 beautiful years of marriage, and their children and grandchildren: Tim and Anna (Turnbull) with Connor, Fraser and Tia; Colleen and Rob (Houston) with Meghan and Joe; and Murray and Shannon (Higginson) with Arlyn and Marin. He will be remembered for his warmth and ready smile along with his enthusiasm for lifelong learning, sports, gardening and the arts. Joe's grandchildren were his endless joy; he passionately supported and cheered on all of their activities and interests. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on August 28, 2015, at Shaughnessy Heights United Church. Our family is forever grateful for the care provided by Rev. Steven Chambers, Rev. George Searcy, Dr. Ian MacDonald and Dr. Viktor Neumann.
