Joseph HEAD Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 5, 2023.
HEAD - Joseph T.
Born December 9th, 1951 of Buffalo passed away on February 26th, 2023 after a brief but courageous battle against cancer. Loving Husband of his recently departed wife of 38 years, Colleen S. (nee Sutherland) Head, Esq. Beloved Father of Kaitlin (Allen) Oberg. Grandfather of Lachlan Oberg. Brother of Michael (Noreen) Head. Also survived by his nephews John, Richie and Eric and his nieces Allison and Lisa. A member of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, Joe dedicated his life to music and teaching, and it was his absolute joy to share his gift with the world through song for as long as he could. He will be deeply missed by all, but especially his friends, family, bandmates and the entire Buffalo Music Community. In Joe's own words from his song, Driftwood: "It's a thin line that separates the night from day. A small pain can rifle all your joy away. But, a little love can make you want to stay, if you've sworn yourself to staying anyway." The Celebration of Life, to be scheduled for a later date, will be announced by NORMAN E. GANNON & SONS, Inc. FUNERAL HOME, 1075 Ridge Rd.; Lackawanna (716-824-4000). Donations in Joe's memory can be made to The Center for the Arts at Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School. Please visit

..So many fine memories during the mid 1980s sharing the stages with Joe Charlie and Jim on the local acoustic music circuit. We so admired the Thirds both creatively and personally. Joe will be missed not only for his gift of music he gave this community but equally for who he was as a person. "Well done my faithful servant, now welcome home"

Joe was a wonderful person and an outstanding musician. We loved seeing him at Shannon Pub and Talty's. A huge loss for the Buffalo area. God Bless Katie and her family as they cope with losing both parents.

Fond memories of seeing Joe play at Grandmother's Closet in Tonawanda in the 1980s and more recently at the Shannon Pub. The man knew how to sing and play. Rest in peace, Joe.
