JOSEPH JACOB ALCALA

Joseph Jacob Alcala, 31 also known as "Joe" and "Joe Joe" of Buhl was called home unexpectedly on Friday, March 30, 2012.

He was born to Fidel and Lori Matsen Alcala on April 23, 1980 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was brought home to a big sister Jamie to start his life in Hazelton, Idaho between the valley and Murtaugh roads. He learned early in his life that Grandma Dorothy's house was just across the field. It was a short walk on the canal bank to grandma's and sometimes it was a long walk back when him and Grandma Dorothy had a minor disagreement, but before long he would think it over and he would be walking back. He had the best of both worlds, he could step out the front door and look to the south and see Grandpa Bonnie's house at Murtaugh. He spent his childhood divided between spending time with Aunts and Uncles, Grandparents and Cousins on both sides of the river. He attended schools in Valley School District where he liked football and history. He was in the graduating class of "1999". He later attended C.S.I. for a short time. The most joyous day of his life was June 16, 2001 when Collin Jacob Alcala Tverdy made him the Dad he always wanted to be. Every day that Joe could spend with Collin was the highlight of his life, he was very family oriented. He had the call of the wild in him because anything that was wild he hunted, from snakes to deer, elk, antelope and any critter known to man. In 2004, Joe's life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with cancer. He met the challenge to fight for his life at the Huntsman Center in Utah which he was still continuing until he was called home.

He left behind his father and stepmother, Fidel and Marie Alcala of Murtaugh; his mother, Lori Alcala of Hazelton; his sister and brother in law, Jamie (Tracy) Staggs of Caldwell; as well as his son, Collin Alcala Tverdy of Hazelton. He is also survived by his niece, Raychell; two nephews, Ian-Ehron and Billy of Caldwell; his stepsisters, Hailey (Brigham) Hurd of Nampa; Megan Holbrook of Murtaugh; his stepbrothers, Reiny (Crystal) Holbrook, Chase Holbrook and Colton Holbrook of Burley; as well as his grandfather, Bonifacio Alcala of Filer; loving friend and companion, Kacie Sherman of Twin Falls; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins by the dozens. He was preceded in death by his Grandma Dorothy Matsen, Grandma Mercedes Alcala, Grandfather Ray Matsen, Aunt Enedina Alcala and Uncle Melvin Meyer.

Funeral services for Joe will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Kimberly Birch Street L.D.S. Church, 222 Birch Street in Kimberly with Bishop Levi Perkins conducting. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A viewing for family and friends will take place on Wednesday evening, April 4, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park", 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls as well as one hour prior to the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to a trust fund set up in the name of Fidel Acala for Joe's son Collin at First Federal Bank. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to White Mortuary, P.O. Box 845, Twin Falls, ID 83303 or can be dropped off at any branch at First Federal Bank.
