Joseph "Joe" Wendt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8, 2023.
Joseph (Joe) Paul Wendt (86), beloved husband, father and grandfather left for his eternal home on September 21, 2023 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte Welhausen Wendt, his children Diane Wendt Bandiga (Bill) and Paul Wendt (Stacey), and grandchildren Kyla and Katie Wendt.

Joe was born in Sweet Home, Texas to Herman and Mary Wendt and was one of five children that lived and worked on the family farm. He attended school in Sweet Home and Yoakum, Texas, graduating in 1954. It was in Yoakum that Joe met Charlotte, the love of his life, asking her out on a date on a bet made with friends. They began dating and were married in 1961.

Joe attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1966 with a Master of Business Administration degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, he and Charlotte moved first to Houston and then to Corpus Christi, where he began his career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. Joe eventually went on to start his own CPA firm and practiced until 2019. In 2018, Joe was recognized by the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants for practicing continuously for 50 years in Texas.

Over the years, Joe and Charlotte found pleasure in family gatherings, travel, and observing wildlife and birds. Joe enjoyed classic cars, football, and working in his yard until his recent illness. Frugal, yet generous, he had a kind and humble spirit that will be missed by those who loved him in this life.

Plans for a celebration of Joe's life are pending. For those wishing to make memorial donations in Joe's name, please consider contributing to the National Park Foundation at www.nationalparks.org.
