My sincere condolences to those who also knew and loved Joe, especially his family. I am another of those whose life was touched and enriched by Joe. He was a truly decent man who cared for those who came into his life.

Dear Ted and Marg, Raye and other members of the Kass Family,
After reading others' remembrances of Joe, I find I share all of them. I knew Joe via my employment at the Sermons from Science Pavilion at the World's Fair, and his friendship with Keith Price. I too remember his infectious smile, his generosity, his sharing with others. "Well done good and faithful servant" indeed. The Montreal Christian community will miss him tremendously.

Deepest sympathy to all the Kass, Reid & Anderson families on your great loss.

Our memories of Joe go all the way back to the wonderful earlier days of Bethel Chapel, of which Joe was a very big part. They were such a happy time in our lives and we cannot think of them without remembering Joe and his teaching, enthusiasm, steady guiding hand and generous kind heart.

May the Lord give all of you His comfort and guidance as you adjust to life without your wonderful brother, father & grandfather.

The memory that comes to mind is Joe Kass' smile. He shared the joy of the Lord and his love for his Master in that very special way. And forty years later that's what I still see. My prayers go out to those that loved and knew him. Soon we will all be together again.

My thoughts go back 40 years to a different time. We were so much younger and Joe was a wonderful role model for us. I am thankful for those spiritual learnings from Joe and Frontier Lodge even though my journey has taken me on a different route. My condolences to his family and all those who loved him and he loved as well.

Dear Syl & Brenda,
You have all been in my thoughts and prayers - your entire family was such an important part of my life I don't have words for it, but the memories will live always in my heart. With much love, Meg.

Dear Sylvia & Brenda & family,

It has been many years since we have seen Joe, but he was a very influential part of our faith journeys as young adults. Gord and I first met him through time spent at Frontier Lodge. I worked there many summers and Gord and I both attended quite a number of Youth Conferences and enjoyed his lessons. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Blessings,

My sincerest condolences to Joe's family at this sad time. Joe was a great friend and mentor to me when I was young...like a second Dad. He made time for me and never pulled his punches when giving his valuable advice on my career, or on dating, or on walking with the Lord. I will never forget his sermons on the seven churches and to this day I shudder at the thought of being "lukewarm" in my service to our Lord. I am thankful to have known Joe and can only imagine how he will be missed by those who knew him best.

Blessings to you; we have fond memories of Joe as a solid example on how to live a life in Christ, as a leader in community, as a person who was easy to chat with.

The Sloan Family in Kentucky send their love and sympathies to the Kass Family. Your dear father, grandfather, brother and friend has been a huge influence on our lives beginning especially in our teen years at Bethel Chapel and Frontier Lodge. Joe Kass and Phil McKnight were incredible encouragers as we learned to walk by faith in our dear Savior Jesus Christ. Joe was particularly helpful and comforting to us when we lost three of our parents. The influence of Joe's faithfulness and clear Bible teaching will have a ripple effect for generations to come. God bless and comfort you all. We appreciate your generosity in sharing Joe with us.

Sylvia and Brenda,
I was truly sad today when I found out about your dad in today's Gazette. I had seen him a few months ago and he gave me the biggest hug. Your father meant so much to me and my husband Elio. We first met him 17 years ago when we were just engaged. Joe had such a deep impact on our young lives. We were priveledged and blessed to have known him. I am thankful that the Lord brought him recently back in my life. It was as if time had not passed. We loved your father dearly. Please accept our most sincere sympathies.

Dear Sylvia, Brenda and family,
We wish we could be with you today at your father's funeral. We so appreciated him and your mother. We have so many very good memories of times spent together with them while we lived in Montreal. It was special to have your father dedicate our eldest daughter Amelia, to the Lord when she was a baby. We will never foget his example to us of a godly leader and business man, one who truly loved the Lord. Romans 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Dear Sylvia, Brenda, and Kass Family,
This passage from 2 Corinthians 3:18, reminded us of your father.
"As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect his glory even more." Our Uncle Joe and brother-in-law was certainly the Light of Christ for all who met him here on Earth. We send our deepest sympathies to you and may you find solace in God's comforting embrace.

Dear Sylvia, Brenda and Kass family,

Joe possessed so many exemplary qualities: he was a dedicated elder and a captivating speaker; he had a commanding presence and a rare mixture of authority and approachability; and he had integrity. But, above all, what I will remember of Joe was the way he greeted me (and everyone else) at church – with an enthusiasm that was sincere and contagious. With simply a broad smile and a wave or handshake, I always felt hat he was so glad to see me. He will be missed.
My sincerest condolences to you; may God be with you in your grief.

Anthony Granato (and on behalf of my mom, Mary Granato)

Dear Sylvia, Brenda and entire Kass Family,

It is not often you meet someone from another generation, another country, the other gender and immediately forge deep ties of true friendship. Perhaps not often for me but it was the usual for Joe. Anyone he spoke to knew that Joe was intensely interested in them; what they thought, what they were doing, where they were going. Of course that was just Joe’s way of introducing everyone to his intensely interesting Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You couldn’t talk to Joe and not end up “talking God”. He had a wonderful way of expanding your faith and then challenging you to live it. That wonderful way was the way he lived cheerfully and consistently the truth he believed so deeply. Joe was faith made visible and my faith and faith walk is stronger for having known and been loved by Joe Kass. His life truly was “Well Done”.

In anticipation of seeing him in eternity,

Gordon Bourns

Dear Sylvia, Brenda and Kass Family,

Joe has been a wonderful Christian mentor for me over the 19 years of our friendship. He has given me excellent business advice in difficult times and in times of prosperity. From Joe I have learned that the Bible is the best foundation for a business, just as it is for my personal life. I marvel at how Joe’s spirit was so positive and uplifting to others even during his battle with cancer. I will miss Joe as a dear friend and a trusted advisor. My prayers are for all of the Kass family in your time of loss.

In Christ,

Dear Sylvia, Brenda and Kass Family,

We have appreciated Joe’s wisdom and sound advice as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of our Audit Committee for our company, Bourns, Inc. over the past 19 years. His commitment to service was evidenced in him missing only one meeting over all those years even though he had to travel from Montreal to Southern California every three months. Joe has been a loyal friend of our family and a trusted business adviser. We will miss him very much. Our deep sympathy goes to each member of the Kass family for your loss.

Sincerely,

Marlan and Rosemary Bourns

Dear Sylvia and Brenda,

I wanted you both to know how sorry I am for your loss. Your father was a wonderful man and I feel lucky to have met him and to have shared in a small part of his care while in hospital. I will miss him and the many talks we used to have.

Joe was one of three men who influenced me the most in my formative years, and I will always appreciate his commitment, his purposed life in Christ, his ability to lead and direct change and commitment and his influence on the Montreal and wider communities.

My prayers and thoughts are with Joe's immediate and extended family. I am sorry I am unable to make it out from British Columbia for the service this weekend.

God bless,

Mark

When I think of Joe I think of 1 Corinthians 13. Joe was a man who truly understood love in all its facets and he walked daily in that understanding. He always raised the bar both in what he expected of himself and those he loved and cared for. He has left an incredible legacy.

I am blessed to have known him.

I remember Joe warmly from his participation at Youth for Christ back in the late 1950's, and his business partnership with Phil McKnight, another dedicated Christian. Joe was a wonderful Christian worker and fine example. My deepest sympathy to all Joe's family.
