Add memories that will last forever

Not sure what to say?

Dear Corinne,

Carole and I are deeply saddened by the news of our good friend Joes passing. Only God knows why he takes the good ones first. And its not for us to try to figure out. The only thing we can be sure of is that there was only one Joe Longo, and that we were fortunate enough to be counted as one of his friends.

This is probably one of the most difficult but yet the easiest letters I have had to write. Difficult, because we have lost a good friend, but easiest because there are so many good memorys of Joe.

In one respect its sad that we only remember all of the good times we have had when someone leaves this mortal life. But isn't this really a celebration of ones life with the final chapter being the acceptance by our GOD who made this all possible.

Some of our best memories of Joe were the fun loving no nonsense guy and all of the good times we had together. What comes to mind was the first time we all got together at your cottage with Paul and Joan Singer and Paul was wearing his 10gallon, hat that fit him fine but when Joe, and I tried it on it slipped over our eyes and ears. And the laughs we shared because of that. How about the ribbing he gave me for taking a shower in the rain at the back of your cottage when we were staying in the apartment.

How about great dinners at the Port House! I remember Joe always ordering Fettuccine Alfreado. And Joe talked me into trying it and I got hooked on it, until I realized it was loaded with fat calories. He also taught us how to cook pasta and broccoli together on one pot in 7 minutes. Who would have thought? And who could forget the introduction to the world famous Dump Parade and how proud he was of Jan's participation. Or the breakfasts at Jakes and the Belgian Waffles. Or our fishing trips to the breakwater in the lower village. These are the things that will always keep Joe alive in my mind and the things I will miss the most.

I remember Joe as always willing to help those he cared for. When we were looking for a cottage to buy at Goose Rocks Joe was the person I asked to check it out for us. If it hadn't been for Joes input we may have never bought the place on Broadway Ave and missed out on all the great times. I distinctly remember his words when I asked if he thought the cottage was a good one and he responded in a way only Joe could with a Ah-h-h-h Ben you gotta look at this one, why dont you come up and stay with us for the week-end and check it out. That to Carole and I was a life-changing event and Joe was right there to help.

Joe was always the go to guy whenever we need advice about the cottage or local venders. He introduced us to Noble the garbage man and Bill Prescott the sand and gravel man. Both of them became invaluable during our stay at Goose Rocks.

How do you put a value on the countless number of trips he and Uncle Art made over to our cottage on a Friday night to check and see if we had arrived yet?

I could go on forever, about how much the customers at work respected his judgment etc. But I am sure that by now he has taken and passed the final exam with his maker, and he knows what all of the good things Joe did and stood for and his scorecard most likely looked something like this.

Good Husband X
Good Father X
Good Friend X
Loyal Companion X
Good Golfer X
Good Confidante X

Joe Longo gets 100% and is awarded a place in Heaven to join and await his family.

With our deepest regrets;

Ben and Carole.

Mr. Longo was a wonderful person and we have many great memories while visiting in Maine, one of our favorites was having Sundaes on Sundays in Maine with both Mr. and Mrs. Longo and the Alosky Family. Corinne and Joe:
Thank you for Jimmy! During our darkest hours he kept our lives going with laughter and companionship and the willingness to help with any task that had to be done. Richard and I are forever grateful you moved down the street from us. Jimmy, like Joe, is one of a kind. There was youthful mischief to be sure. The imaginative minds of Richard and Jimmy fed their creativity to soaring heights. I must be old enough now because Richard has begun to share a few of the secrets from their youth. I love you Joe. I love you Corinne. I love you Jimmy, and it's OK. In my eyes you could do no wrong and your parents did everythng right...whether you liked it or not.

WE DIDN'T KNOW HIM PERSONALLY, BUT CERTAINLY KNEW HIM THROUGH JIM AND HIS SONS WILLIAM AND ZACHARY. LOOKING INTO HIS FACE WE CAN SEE ALL THREE OF THEM AND THE GOODNESS AND KINDNESS OF THEIR FATHER AND GRANDFATHER SHINING THROUGH FROM MR. JOE LONGO. IT'S EASY TO SEE ALL THE FINE QUALITIES IN HIS FAMILY BEING PASSED ON TO THE REMAINING FAMILY, PROUDLY AND WITH LOVE. OUR SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO JIM AND ALL OF HIS FAMILY AT THIS SAD TIME...
MEMORIES WILL SUSTAIN ALL OF THEM WITH PRIDE.

Joe may have been relatively small in stature, but he was GIANT in character. That was apparent to me from the very the first time I met him. I really enjoyed his sense of humor and outlook on life- and I found his devotion to his wife and family a true inspiration.

I know his indomitable spirit will live on forever in his children and grandchildren. May you find comfort in this- and in your many wonderful memories.

With sincere sympathy,

Dear Grandpa,

Since the first day that I met you, I have felt like I was one of your own grandchildren. You treated me like a member of the Longo family whenever I would visit and I always left feeling fulfilled. Your humor was a comfort to me and I always felt loved whenever I left your home.

I am so proud to be marrying into your wonderful family. I am so greatful to have met you. Nic has so many of your traits and I only love him more for that.

Love Always,
Sara

I think I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Longo briefly, but it seems like my whole career I've been surrounded by his kids.

If the measure of a man is the quality of his family, he was one successful guy and you are all a fine tribute to him. We are what our parents made us and they live on in us and who we touch every day.

I hope you all find peace in your many friends who care about you and we thank your dad and mom for giving you to us.

A good man that will be missed. I always remember when I didn't see Joe for a few days, when I saw him next, he would always say "Hey Pete, how the hell are you doing"?
