On this date isn't the only day I think about you every year since 2007, but it's the most difficult of those days. I still remember the last time I saw you and I wish we had the chance to know each other better as adults. You are so loved by so many in this world and your name and life will never be forgotten.

Today is not the first day I have thought of you, nor will it be the last. Although I have never met you, I want you to know that you have had a profound impact on our family. Joe, not only were you in the same 2-14 unit as my husband, but also his friend. He still talks about sharing his beloved tasty cake stash with the only other man who would appreciate the delicious treat. The ultimate sacrifice that you and SGT Correa made will never be forgotten. Both of you are never far from our thoughts.
To the Weiglein Family: please know that Joe meant so much to so many. Many of whom never met him, like me. However, his name lives on in our home, and he will never be forgotten.

Joseph was assigned to my platoon in Fort Stewart, Georgia in 1995/96 when I was assigned as a new platoon leader in 3/7 Infantry, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. I remember Joseph´s vitality and `get´r done attitude. I believe he was one of the few Soldiers within the platoon to earn his Expert Infantryman´s Badge the first time. He was always one of the `go to´ Soldiers within the platoon and I am lucky to have known and served with him. I remember Joe often since I heard of his passing and today he specifically is on my mind. Blessings, Colonel Christopher Quale PL 1/D/3-7 Infantry, 3ID, Fort Stewart, GA (Nov 1995-Dec 1996

As Joseph's anniversary approaches, May 29th, we want to remember him and keep his spirit alive. Again we send a poem to help ease your grief over the past 4 years.
“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go"
May God continue to grant you strength and courage to continue as Joesph would want you to do.

Joe, I miss ya brother, I remember you in the Recruiting Station. I was very proud of you always. I looked up to you even though I was incharge. Deep down you were always in charge though. You were the person I always wanted to be, loyal, dedicated, honest, and integrity above all. I remember you, ensuring your dogs were let out everyday no matter what you were doing. You always took care of everyone around you. My boys Brad and Cody always wanted to come to the office to see you. You inspired them to be like you! I am so happy my children met you. Your positive attitude and your ability to inspire children, helped us understand a death of a hero is remembering all the good things about a friend. You are a Hero's, Hero. Love ya Bro!!!!!!!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Joseph, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

As the class of 1987 celebrated its 20th reunion, we took a moment to remember Joe Weiglein. We can sometimes forget about the war but when it hits close to home we are jolted back to reality. We should never forget the sacrifices made by the many men and women in our armed forces.
I just wanted to share with the family and friends of Joe that you have the deepest sympathy from the Audubon class of 1987.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Dear Weiglein,
Joseph was my daughter's recruiter while he was in Kingsport. She was very saddened to learn of his death but knew of his desire to be where the action was. I just wanted you to know how much she appreciated his honesty and help in getting the job she wanted in the Army. He worked so hard to get her the information she wanted. She is currently in her 3rd year of her enlistment and like Joe is so proud to be serving her country. Joe's legacy is in the soldiers he recruited and I think this is something to be very proud of. I am so sorry that someone as good as Joe had to leave us, but it is true God takes only the best and Joe was that. In this Tennessee family's prayers...

I am the fiance of SGT. Richard V. Correa. I'm sorry that it took so long for me to get into contact with you!! My heart is broken, just as much as yours is... I still can't believe that their gone, the only thing that I can say is that I'm thankful that they weren't alone... I've been meaning to send you the Memorial Bulletin that we had and the praryer card, but I still don't want to believe that this is real. My heart goes out to you. I know they died truly loving what they did. They are hero's. I know it will take a long time for me to accept that Richard is no longer here, but I know they are BOTH in a better place, watching over us. They are our guardian angels. My prayers go out to you, and I still support and pray for our troops safe return.
God Bless,

To the Family and Friends of Staff Sergeant Joe Weiglein,
His physical presence in this world cut painfully short, yet in his brief years he touched so many lives . . .
It was my honor and privilege to meet him during his visit to our school. I was moved by his honest answers to the children and how, despite the war, he communicated great respect for life and all people.
I think it was meant to be that Joe became our adopted soldier. Thank you for sharing him with us.
Joe will forever be Our Haviland Hero.
God Bless you with the comfort and peace of everlasting life.

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the entire Weiglein family, as well as all those whom are grieving this tremendous loss. I had the very distinct pleasure of serving alongside Joe while he was a Recruiter. I would have gladly served with him anywhere in the world, he was that type of man. Soldiers share a common bond that can only be described as a brotherhood. It is an odd, yet unyielding love for one another that forms between us that can never be duplicated.
Few times in my life have I felt the pain I felt yesterday at Joe's service. To see the tremendous outpouring of support from the community helps reassure me that the family will be well taken care of. It also showed just what an impression Joe has left on us all.
I offer to the family anything that you may need to help you through this. I consider you all to be part of my family, my Army family, and would do for you just as I would for my own blood. Please do not hesitate to ask for anything that you may need. I am here for you. May GOD bless you all.

Jen, and Weiglein family,
I joined the Army around the same time as Joe, and remember they took our pictures in front of an American flag and posted it on a board with our chosen job and hometown. The recruiter put the Audubon guys together because he said we all shared a common bond of small town patriotism. There were three of us and i'll never forget the feeling of pride seeing our pictures there together, and commenting about it when I saw him in passing every now and than while home on leave. I also served a tour in Korea 99-2000, and the middle east 2004. I'll never forget the anguish of watching you walk out behind his casket on his birthday, but more importantly, I will never forget the sacrafice he willingly made for his men, his hometown, and his country. Soldiers like Joe are never forgotten. God Speed Staff Sgt. Weiglein.

My heartfelt sympathy and my prayers go out to the family and friends of Joseph Weiglein who gave the supreme sacrifice for his country. I read on-line about the tribute the town of Audubon gave to this modern day hero. His time here on earth was too brief but he definately left an impact. May God Bless you all!

It is so hard to find the words. I do not know Joseph or his family but feel the need to express how sorry I am for your lost. You see, I lost my brother, Dan, in Iraq on Feb 20, 2006 and I know how empty your heart feels right now. Joseph is truly a hero, an incredibly courageous man who was willing to give his life for our freedom. We are very proud of Dan, as I'm sure you feel the same about Joseph. Find comfort in all your wonderful memories and by the love of those around you. He will never be forgotten. God bless.

Jenn,
Though it has been some time since we last saw one another, you are often in my thoughts. However, this is definitely not how I would have wanted to find you. My heart is with you, and I am so very sorry to hear about Joe. He was a good man, and I cannot imagine what it is like to be in your shoes. May God look down upon you and help you through this difficult time.

To Jen and the entire Weiglein family and to all those Joe touched with is laugh and smile, I offer my deepest sympathy. Joe had a rare gift for making a friend of all those he met. On Football Sundays and trivia nights Donna and I have thought of Joe and Jen often since they moved form the Tri-cities. It is those nights that provide me a vivid memory of Joe an eagles jersey on his chest, a mug in one hand and other resting on Jen's shoulder, with a big smile on his face. If Donna or I can do anything please contact us.
sincerly,

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. I had the pleasure of knowing SSG Weiglein and Jennifer, while he was stationed in Kingsport, TN as a recruiter. From the day he signed into the Company, he always had a smile on his face. The memory of SSG Weiglein will live in the hearts of all who knew him.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
