Joseph M. Manzi

Joseph M. Manzi DO, of Agawam passed unexpectedly on May 7th at the age of 56. He was born in Springfield on January 31st, 1965. He was the son of the late Michael L. and Phyllis N. (Goodrich) Manzi. Joseph was a graduate of Classical High School, American International College, both in Springfield, MA, and the New York School of Osteopathic Medicine on Long Island, NY. As a physician Dr. Manzi was a board-certified family physician in East Hartford and Middletown, CT as well as Phoenix and Sun Lakes, AZ.
Joe was a very adventurous spirt, he loved outdoor activities such as downhill skiing, camping, hiking, travel as well as boating and flying in private airplanes. Maintaining long term friendships came very natural to Joe as he was a very kind and caring person with great listening skills and was always willing to be there for others. Joe was an accomplished photographer and gardener.
Joe will be forever loved and remembered by his life partner of over 20 years Kevin Freeman and his brother James Manzi. Joe is survived also by two uncles Ronald Goodrich and his wife Kathy, and Doug Goodrich. He also leaves three aunts Martha Nulph, Roberta Sheltra, Dorothy Ingram and her husband Donald. As well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home in Agawam on Friday May 14th from 4-7pm for a period of visitation. Joseph’s ashes will be buried with his mother at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made either the CAA Research Center or to Dakin Humane Society
Since 2017, Joe has suffered from Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), a rare and progressive brain disease, donations can be made in Joe’s name to support Dr. Stephen Greenberg’s CAA Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, by mail to the Mass General Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston MA 02114. Please note Joseph’s name and CAA Research in the memo line of a check.
