Now and then you think about someone who enriched your life, and Joe did just that. I am just learning of this now, and want to let his family and friends know how fortunate I feel to have crossed paths with him ever so briefly in the Department of Anthropology. I was a staff member, and he made no bones about intellectual distinctions that may have suggested. He was interested and curious about so many things. What a gift. Truly, a blessed man.

Condolences on the loss of such a wonderful and accomplished person! In high school I remember him as being very kind, soft spoken and amiable.

Very much too soon. We had so much more to say to each other. But we don't get to choose stuff like this. There is no forgetting you.

My dearest condolences to Joe. I only knew him for a brief moment in Bozeman. I am sorry that he passed away before I got the chance to speak to him again. Wow, what great achievements he has done in his lifetime. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in paradise

I remember the picture of all the boys, especially when I got to baby sit them. They were good as gold and I miss those times so very much!

I am so glad Joe and I were able to reconnect via FB. Always involved in very deep conversations, many times with opposite views, I always marveled at his level of intelligence and insight. I had such respect and admiration for him on so many levels, and though he talked so far above my comprehension, he always spoke slowly and with purpose, followed by a great deal of explanation.

When we were younger, we shared a mutual love for Topsy, our beloved fraternal Grandmother. We shared many stories when we were together. She was an amazing woman and is still missed every day.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed by so many, and will leave a terrible void. R.I.P. Joe...Until we meet again.
