I remember Pat from Notre Dame through all 4 years but especially, our 5th year when we were both married students and struggling to graduate. I hated to see his name in the Obit's of The ND Magazine. Was hoping to see him and you Eileen at our 50th next year. Please accept my condolences,

Believe it or not I actually remember when I first met Mashburn. It was September 1961 when he came walking down the hallway of our freshman dorm carrying a pack of Marlboros in one hand and a handkerchief in the other. He was throwing around a lot of "Y'all's" as he came toward me which sounded funny to the ear of a farm boy from Minnesota who was more comfortable with a "You Betcha" or two than with this new lingo. To make things worse, I was a Winston guy and wasn't at all impressed by the Marlboros especially since they were in a sissy cardboard box. That day was the first of many chances to experience his little "handkerchief ceremony", something he performed every time he blew his nose because the plumbing for it never did work right. I will never forget the "pinky fingers up" approach he had. Anyway, little did the "Winston guy" know that the friendship begun that day with the "Marlboro guy" would grow to be one of the most cherished in his life. It lasted more than 5 decades and as they grew from boys to men it simply got deeper and more valued. Godspeed,Mash..Godspeed on your journey home.

We will miss the "Chairman" as he was known in Baton Rouge. He was a great guy, a fighter, and always had a smile on his face! We extend our sympathies to his family and thank you for sharing him with us.

I had the unique pleasure of growing up around Pat, who was a neighbor just up the street and fellow student at Holy Ghost School in Hammond. I remember so many wonderful things about his parents and siblings. His daddy sponsored a Little League baseball team on which I played with Pat for a time. I remember their home as being full of joy and laughter, as we all sat around for lunch spinning the largest laszy Susan I've ever seen in my life. Pat was a gentle but strong personality, and a great friend to have. He's part of who I am, even to this day. I have some photos I'll dig out and send down to those surviving him. Until then, please know I share in your celebration of his life. Albert Yokum, Baldwin, Long Island, New York.

"...I am traveling there to awaken him..." these were words of Jesus after his friend Lazurus had fallen asleep in death. May the next voice your dear loved one hear be that of Jesus awakening him from sleep too.
