Joseph Masi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2007.
Joseph Louis Masi Passed away peacefully at his home in San Francisco on May 19, 2007 with his devoted wife, Susan, by his side. Joe is survived by three loving children, Eric, Renee and Robin; five grandchildren, David, Don, Tyler, Ben and Greta, all of whom he was extremely proud. He also leaves a stepson, Bryan Hillstrom, his wife, Iva and their twin daughters, Holly and Rose. Joe retired as a colonel in the USAF after 23 years of service. Almost from the day after his retirement from the Air Force, Stanford Research, SRI International hired him for 13 more years. Both professions took him overseas to live in such wonderful places as Italy, Great Britain and Portugal. He and Susan, always with her bags packed, thoroughly enjoyed those assignments. Joe claimed "rusty" proficiency in French, German, Italian and Portuguese, which were often needed and used. Jose was an avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. He loved sports and coached his children when they were youngsters in baseball and swimming. Joe was a member of several club associations including the Air Force Association, American Defense Preparedness Association, Mensa Olympic Club, Royal Automobile Club of London, Royal Air Force Club of London and the Retired Officer's Association. Joe conquered the most difficult crossword puzzles, loved playing golf, and could never turn down a hot fudge sundae. Joe graduated with a Ph.D. in physics from Kings College, University of London, a degree of engineer from Stanford University, an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and a B.S. from the Naval Academy. A private celebration of Joe's life will be held in both Massachusetts and San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity.
