Jose Antonio Masullo otherwise known as Pepe was born on December 2, 1956 in Caibarien, Cuba. He was married to glorious woman (our mother) Maria Esther Guntin.
Pepe passed away unexpectedly on Sunday October 20, 2013, he was 86 and soon to be 87.
Losing my father is one of the most difficult things I have gone through. As I am standing up here today, I realize how fortunate I was to have him as my Father. There are no words to express his influence in my life. It is through his example that I learned to be the father and husband that I am today.
My father was a hardworking, strong, loving, gentle and kind man. He loved his family and was deeply devoted to my mother and his two sons Joe and me. Although my Dad may never have said it out loud I know that he was truly proud of his children and the way we both grew up. I am what I am today from this strong work ethic and he taught me to always do the right thing. He was a stubborn man, this I also inherited from him.
My father was an athletic man, a competitive swimmer, avid tennis player, hunter and fisherman from this I learned to love athletics and fishing as a young boy.
He loved to hunt and would often go to the mid-west with friends to go pheasant hunting and would take my brother and I duck and dove hunting at every opportunity. He loved fishing and the outdoors, so much so that my parents bought a place in the keys and bought a boat.
I believe he lived a good life, worked extremely hard, it was evident from his long hours on the job and didn't retire until he was 71. He was always on the go, non-stop. I used to tell him you're a bull in a china shop. He also played hard and certainly loved to be in the keys.
As with any father/son relationship things weren't always perfect, but I loved him just the same. I only wish I spent more time with him, but the daily grind of work and what I thought were priorities kept me from it.
Thank you again for being here to share our last day with Pepe. Although I miss him tremendously, I believe he is in a better place, finally reunited with his beautiful wife Maria and my brother Josan.
God Bless you all.
