Joseph Edward McCrady III

Joseph "Joe" Edward McCrady III (age 72), of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away April 12, 2023. After an extended illness, he is home with his father God. Born on December 3, 1950, in Memphis, TN, Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Martha Shirley Powell and father, Joseph McCrady Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debbie Hogan McCrady, son, Joseph Edward McCrady IV, daughter, Christin Rebecca McCrady, brother, Tom McCrady, sisters, Nan Smith, Debbie Sheats, Jennifer Eggen (Ken), sister-in-law, Trish Hogan Cox, and father, Wayne Powell.

Joe was an extremely funny man and always had his audience laughing. He was passionate about music and loved playing the guitar in his spare time. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and treasure hunting with wife Debbie. At the University of Tennessee, Joe studied anthropology, a field he chose early in life because of his love for people (and dinosaurs). He had strong interests in Native Americans and Indigenous people and was a history fanatic. You never wanted to challenge him in trivia games.

Joe never met a stranger. He spoke to everyone who crossed his path and made sure people around him knew they counted. Joe had a gift for making people feel special and a strong compassion for animals.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 28, 2023, 1:00 - 2:30 P.M. followed by a 2:30 P.M. service at Homewood Church of Christ, 265 W Oxmoor Rd Birmingham, AL 35209. The family invites attendees to join them for food and fellowship following the service.
